Subject: z-BRUSH TO POSER?

Treewarden ( ) posted Mon, 07 April 2003 at 12:28 PM ยท edited Sat, 27 July 2024 at 6:43 AM

I know this has been gone over before so I apologize. Can z-brush be used to export .obj to poser with/without lots of headaches? I remember that someone said poly's are way to high with z-brush. My z-brush demo will not permit export to test anything. I am wondering if computers have moved along enough to get past this. Was the poly count too high for poser or too high for renderosity product submission guidelines? Anyone using z-brush with poser out there? Thanks, caravaggio

Indeed you can, with very good results. Visit www.pixolator.com for more info. But.....not with the demo

I use z for morphs (it plain rocks) I think the new adaptive skinning option even allows you to reskin a hi-poly model and make it a lower poly version (if you build one in z) but you might want to ask about that at the z forum to be sure cause I only use it for morphs..nothing else :)

Hey great then! I'll sure go look into all this stuff! Thanks caravaggio

I had fun with ZBrush a couple of times when I bought it, despite the obscure interface and nonexistent documentation. Gave up on it after their horrible copy-protection system turned the program off for the 4th time in 2 years. Despite repeated promises to "fix" this, the company seems to enjoy playing "the good guys", sending out repeated fixes that never last more than 6 months. I find most mandatory registration programs to be totally obnoxious. Having to do so repeatedly is absolutely insufferable.

Just to clarify, people are talking about 2 different issues. Z-Brush seems to be quite good for making MTs for Poser (though I think the latest version had to be updated to address a small bug in that regard). Check out Zrincx and RnRWoman in the Galleries for examples. The high poly-count issue comes in when you model something from scratch in Z-Brush and want to import it into Poser. In that case, there may be issues based on the capacity of a user's computer, just as V3 puts a bigger strain on the computer than V2, which was bigger than the original Victoria, who is bigger than Posette, etc.

Hmmmm, Interesting. You can take a mesh into z-brush that exists in poser, and use the tools for morph targets, and all is well. Making a model may push the limits of the computer. There is a horrible registration issue. Hmmm. Well I suppose you can't have everything. I went by those galleries of Zrincx and RnRWoman, and it looks like those artists use them for morph targets, rather than all out content creation. Is that right? Thanks caravaggio

Yep, Z & RnR are using it for MTs. And I don't mean to sound too negative about original meshes; I think you can do poygon reduction in ZB. However, with figure creation, there is also an issue of design... creating a head mesh that can be morphed into natural-looking expressions requires a fair amount of planning. If you want to explore those issues further, I would recommend the boards at Z-Brush central (fougot the URL, but there's a link on the pixologic home page). You could also try the ZB forum here, but there's less traffic there than at ZBC.

FYI, the registration issue has been fixed with v1.55b. Link to ZBrush Central above.

You might also want to check out Pusghetty's thread at ZBC - he's working on a poseable dwarf for Poser right now. It was modelled in ZBrush.
