OK..is it actually possible to have V2 or V3 exhibit a natural looking smile without resorting to making your own mouth morphs? They always look strange to me. such as this one...maybe her teeth are too big???

The bottom one looks like she's forcing the smile, and is very afraid of something.

That could be useful :-)

very forced...did you see the photographer?

Head on, yeah, but in a pose I think it looks pretty good. How about this one?

Momcat ( ) posted Tue, 08 April 2003 at 9:14 PM

I think the teeth really do have a lot to do with it, but also, there needs to be a morph that will raise the upper lip higher without snarling, and also others to raise and lower the top and bottom lips seperately. Right now I find that compensating with the x rotation and heights of the top and bottom teeth works pretty well to fake those things.

I like the second one for sure... the first has that V2/3 mouth :) I've never made any morphs.

I've been trying to duplicate the beautiful, sexy smiles that Anton somehow manages to give her in his promo images...to no avail :( In my hands her smile morphs produce grimaces and 'fakey' smiles only...sigh.

Dave-So ( ) posted Tue, 08 April 2003 at 10:03 PM

me too :) That's why I put this post here.... How about we get some tutorial on making a smile for Vic that looks natural...

it's in the eyes, the smile doesn't extend past the mouth... when people smile, there whole face "lights up"

Dave-So ( ) posted Tue, 08 April 2003 at 10:09 PM

Eyes...yes, that makes sense. I did a portrait a few days ago that brought the response that she had that glazed over Vicky stare :) Hers eyes are pretty expressionless...

I try to get that, but there also needs to be a raise cheeks morph. I'm not to good at morphs, so I just wait patiently for the morph masters to create them, and try to do the best I can with what I've got.

Take a look at Miles of Smiles by Nfredman in the marketplace. She has it down on smiles. I used hers until I started doing it automatically. Now, they are for V2-- I think V3, though she does other things well, needs more expression morphs--I haven't been able to find eye wince, that pulls the lower lids up, always happens in smiles, the pupil gets larger and the eyes crinkle, nose crinkles a bit. I tend to use negative frown left and right at different amounts and eyebrows up or down, sometimes O will get you there sometimes a bit of E. V3 is hard to make smile broadly, luckily, I hate broad smiles. Emily

I am sure there IS an Eye wince morph in V3. And yes, the eyes are a major part of a natural smile. Now I'm not at my Poser machine so I can't try it out, but V3 can indeed make some beautiful smiles.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

You could try mixing the "A","CH" (as in "cheeze") or "SH" morphs in with the smiley dials for a more individualized grin.

Momcat ( ) posted Wed, 09 April 2003 at 5:38 AM

The problem with the eye wince, it that many people use them to shape the eyes for their character faces. When you then use them for expressions, it changes the character.

purplehayes ( ) posted Wed, 09 April 2003 at 6:10 AM

What about negative frowning ? (Values of the frown dial in the negative, but really under 1.0) Also, yes, when you smile, the eyes do it too (look at most fashion magazine models pose: you will notice some of these smiling poses to be really fake, since the eyes don't follow, if you put on something to hide the mouth...) But I'm not an expert, it's just a tought from someone wh just manages to fiddle a bit with this program... PH
