Subject: Making thumbnails for Poser

amlaborde ( ) posted Wed, 09 April 2003 at 11:43 AM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 11:16 AM

Hi, I have been playing with some files and I am curious as to a program that converts my files to tumbnails with the actual picture of the finished product. When I save my faces or characters they are the preview image. How do I save thumbnails of the rendered image in the library?? I have looked through freestuff but have not come up with anything. Thanks, Annette

Hi, the thumbnails is a file called .rsr if you are using Poser 4 or earlier and they are called .png for Poser pro and Poser 5. Depending on what Poser you use, you can get a .rsr to .png or png to rsr utility at Senosoft, it is called P3DoExplorer..... Sharen

It is a free download and on that page you can see instructions on how to create your thumbnails either using .rsr or .png I reread my post above, and it sounds weird, so not to confuse you: .rsr is a thumbnail in your libraries folder with application Poser 4 or earlier .png is a thumbnail in your libraries folder with application Poser Pro Pack and Poser 5 Hope that explained it. Yep I think I got it so basically I could render my image save it as a png file, take it into p3do to make a thumbnail then place that with the face file in my library?

You can also render, go to Display>Paste onto background then move you camera forward so you can see only the background, not the previewed objects, and then save to your library. If you do save an image to create a thumbnail with P3DO it needs to be 91 * 91 pixels.

Most render at 91 x 91 cause that is the size of the thumbnail and take that render (right from Poser)and then go into P3Do and do their work right there...I have to go and make an alpha channel cause I use .rsr, but yes, if you read the help file with P3Do you will do just fine. Sharen

In the Pro Pack and Poser 5 you are not limited to a 91 x 91 sized image.

Just the info I was looking for! I always save from Poser as a .psd for editing. Paint shop pro can open .psd's and save as .png's. Then I just used p3do explorer to "edit" the png and save as... rsr. :)

so whats the easiest way to convert 26 TIFs with alpha channel to RSRs?

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Thu, 10 April 2003 at 4:14 AM

I'd batch-convert them to PNG format with PSP, then run P3dO Explorer's RSR-to-PNG tool to convert the entire folder in one shot.

Lyrra ( ) posted Thu, 10 April 2003 at 2:53 PM

LD - that's essentially what I'm doing, but with Photoshop. But I'm having issues with the png-to-rsr part .. I took an rsr and converted it to png ...no problem. Except for some reason my p3do won't see pngs .... huh? what version is it up to? I have 1.5.3

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Thu, 10 April 2003 at 7:33 PM

I'm still using 1.5.2, myself. It's up to version 1.6.

Chailynne ( ) posted Thu, 10 April 2003 at 7:45 PM

I'm using 1.5.5 Lyrra if that helps. If I remember right there were some added on plugins that I downloaded and installed at the same time. You might need those plugins or to upgrade p3do itself to do the png to rsr. It took me a while to figure out I had to edit the png then file save as to get the rsr. But the png's definitely show up in p3do.
