Subject: Michael's Disappearing Hips

I'm having a problem I've never seen before. I'm creating a scene that includes two Michael figures, one of which has the Massive Mike magnets, the other doesn't, althogh I don't think that's the issue. So far, there are only the characters, their clothes and hair in the scene. When I add the second figure to the scene, his hips aren't visible in the document window. I checked, and they are indeed set to "visible." They don't render, either. Out of curiosity I opened the .pz3 in Vue d'Esprit...no hips at all on the poor guy. Vue doesn't import invisble parts, but again, the hips were set to be visible, but don't export any more than they show up in Poser. If I load only one of the characters, there are no such problems. My hunch is that this may be due to memory issues, since I'm using P4 on Win98 with only 128MB RAM. Even though that's below the 256MB that CL recommends, I've been able to create and render complex scenes with more than one Millennium figure in the past without any problems. Has anyone else seen this? Any known fixes? Your suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.

Maybe it's a weird variant on crosstalk. Let me explain... Figure 1 has the morph targets/magnets attached, and is quite happy to look the way it does, and goes on doing Massive Mike type things. Figure 2, due to crosstalk, would very much like to be just like Figure 1, but because he doesn't have the magnets, he just can't cut the mustard. And therefore, bits of him disappear in a haze of digital smoke. Or maybe I'm totally wrong. :) If I'm correct, you should be able to fix it by using the "Millennium Null" cross talk fixer. You can find it through one of the tutorials at DAZ arcana.

It's actually the Massive figure that's losing his hips, but you could be right about crosstalk. I'll try the Arcana fix. I'm also about to run out and buy a new stick of RAM. :-) Many thanks for taking the time to help! I'll post an update after I tinker around some more.

I've had the same thing when using M2 and Massive Mike in the same scene, only it was the M2's hips which were invisible. I turned genitals off and then on and the hips reappeared. Try it and see if that works. As I understand it, turning genitals off and on actually loads separate hip object files and swaps them out.

This same thing has happened to me (...okay to my poser figures). I don't think its a memory issue as I have 1GB of RAM. Interestingly it happens intermittently when I load two M2 characters, even when I use the Millenium Null to ward off cross talk. I'd say it happens maybe 5% of the time when I'm using two figures in Poser, and I've never been able to see a pattern or figure out why. Usually I just treat it as the fluke it seems to be and continue on, although it would be interesting to hear if anyone has figured this out. Matt
