To save time, you might just want to browse through this very recent thread. I would advise you to stay clear unless you are over 18 as it gets pretty rough in there. ;-)Take care, be well, keep flying.

P.S. - Poser 4+Pro Pack gets my vote. ;-)
Seconding Emily. Poser 5 is good for fine-looking static renders, if you have all the time and patience in the world. Poser 4PP is good for everything else, especially if your time and patience is somewhat less than infinite.

I'm not one of the blessed 12 animators :) I'm a hobbyist, I like to teak, and I like fast renders. I have both P4 and P5 and the only things I really like about P5 are the multipane views, python and the library clean-up. I rarely use P5 any more, (with a similar spec to yours; 2Ghz P4, 1Gb DDR) even with the latest service pack, for me, it's slow and clunky compared to p4. Given the choice now, I'd buy Pro Pack, and the library booster from the market place. This will give me everything I want with very little additional learing curve. P5 is all learning curve, and I have plenty of time but no inclination to learn. I don't want to learn I want to relax and have fun. Don't get me wrong, the "advances" of P5 are very nice, The material room is great, as is the cloth room. But I'm a "point 'n click" kind of guy. My attempts to get stuff working have frustrated me enough that I had to switch off the computer and walk away. If you're interested in learning, P5 is for you, if you just want to play, stick with P4 and get the Pro-Pack. later jb

See Casamerica, This is what I was talking about in that previous thread. :p Poser 5 is a crap shoot. If you are lucky and it works for you (like it has for me, with a 1.9 ghz P4 and 256 megs of ram. Thenb it's a big step up from P4. If however you have another app to render in, I say get propack.
I've read through both forums and it's still a split decision. :-) I will be rendering in Poser, (I do anyway,) and I will be doing a lot of animation. That seems to make a major difference, so I thought I'd throw that out. I want to thank you guys for your help. I am going to make a decision next week (sooner if I get my refund check earilier than I expect.) :-)

Hi everyone. I know that this has probably been hashed and re-hashed over and over but I have to ask. I have Poser 4. I am debating if I should buy Poser Pro-Pack or Poser 5. I have a 2.4 Gig with 500 mb ram and I'm running XP. I've heard that Poser 5 has a lot of neat stuff but Poser 4 with pro pack is a lot more stable. I'll be using it for game programming. I have some games (all human, and yes I'll admit, it does include nudity,) that I'd like to include Poser charactors in. Thanks for the help! Frank
