Subject: Real art, or just a porn?

Sceme ( ) posted Thu, 17 April 2003 at 2:09 AM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 1:27 PM

i can't help it, sorry. But i have to say this out loud. Am i just imaginating, but i see lot, i mean ALOT of just nude Poser program models....what kind of art or skills on 3d graphics is it???? just showing a nude little bit modified character???...don't get this. Personally, i'm going mad, because for me, this whole graphic forum has gone guite "porn" like....don't like to visit here because of all those nude thumbs, images, etc around here...where are all those REAL artwork...i see them too in here...but overall someone should do something about this amount of nude photos, it's insane. I may be a man, but i really don't like to watch all those nude women, i wanna see ART! How many of u guys really modelling those nude models by your self???...just wondering.... i hope u guys will not hate me for doing this, but i'm just got mad about this thing.

Porn is stereotypically the act of sex. We do not allow that here. General nudity is fine. There are 31 other galleries other than Posers. Members can filter pics containing nudity in their profile. Beyong that...I can understand where you're coming from, there are a lot of nude Poser pics. But, I'll admit a lot of those Poser artists are REALLY good at what they do. Diversify, try some other galleries. AgentSmith

dude, if you think nude = porn you have a serious problem. otoh, you won't find much art at 'rosity, there are lot more sites around that are dedicated to "art" and not to "poser skills". or even better, visit your local galleries.

lupus ( ) posted Thu, 17 April 2003 at 3:52 PM

Well, really.... if its a problem... then don't look! :-) ... or think: everybody has to start somewhere... we all learn by doing all those ... hm... mistakes (tried to shirink this text).... ... By the way... Realsoft 3D?... Real 3D?... remeber that from my amiga-days.... didn't know it lived on... it was a wonderful software back then!

bloodsong ( ) posted Thu, 17 April 2003 at 3:52 PM

heyas; you can try www.3dcommune.com, which allows nude art, but not nude thumbnails. or you can try www.poserforum.net, which does not allow male nudity (although female nudity is allowed). or, as agent smith pointed out, go into your profile and activate the option not to view any nude art in the galleries, and it will magically all go away. :)

DarkElegance ( ) posted Thu, 17 April 2003 at 4:51 PM

erm I am sorry but anyone that thinks opening vicky hiting a pose and posting it is as easy as he is making it out...is just not being realistic. it is not that easy to get a good nude done. just like puting someone naked in front of a camera is not nude art. it takes angels lighting posing....etc. Also if you think nude figures are not art then I suggest you never look at statues done by the masters such as David..or venus...cus I hate to tell you they were {shock horror gasp}NUDE. that is right how bout that NUDE ~ART~. I will say that just a naked render is not art..the "mood" the layout the whole "package" of the piece is what makes a difference as I am sure many artists here will atest to. Now if lets say there were pics everywhere in here at Renderosity that depicted explicate genital contact and out right sex/orgy scenes I could understand you complaining. I guess you dont like Royo? Boris Vallejo? or Vegas? they do nude art...

I am so glad that somebody finally addresses this point. In the four years that I come here, I cannot remember that anyone ever said anything about Poser nude art vs. Poser porn or something the like. Or did I miss anything????

Sceme ( ) posted Fri, 18 April 2003 at 2:02 AM

ok guys, i stat put that "PORN" word to get your attention, i DO like those SELF MODELED nude images. All character u modeled by your self. But what i can see, just using Poser's models, u don't actually make that image by your self...i'm really sorry, but i just don't appreciate those images so much, there's just too many of them. i know in that stuff, u putt more into the posing, lightning, scene setup. And tell me. ok, i'm a man, yes, man who has interests for women's body, ok. But here's a guestion: Why always nude female in those images?...nude images for men? men looking those images and says: "wow big perfect boobs"..."wow! beautiful woman, this image rocks!"...i hope u guys really understand my point on this thing.' Hey Lupus, yes Real3D is living fully :D...Realsoft3D is now on 4.5 version :)...that software rocks :)...well, i know that rendering is guite heavy, but wow that guality, and ofcourse they are developing that software all the time, so getting better and better :)

One trouble is that "tits means hits" and that penalises any image maker who has no skill or aptitude in making sexy stuff. Art competitions should have a separate prize for "best non-sexy".

dewo ( ) posted Fri, 18 April 2003 at 6:56 AM

The other trouble is that it is (often only) seen as a competition in the first place. Something, which I find quite difficult to accept with things like these - whether you want to call them art or not. One likes particular images and the other one hates them, one calls it art and the other one doesn't, one likes to eat cheese and the other one likes to go to church. How do you make a competition out of that? - The number of hits is not necessarily a criteria for me.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Fri, 18 April 2003 at 11:38 AM

...though it is rare to find an artful nude image in the Poser gallery (my own pitiful submissions included if you like.) If you want poser porn, a great place to find some pretty high-octane stuff would be renderotica.com... you can find some pretty intense and masterful art in there. But, like here, there, and elsewhere, you will find a high percentage of crap in proportion to the percentage of kick-butt stuff that makes you rush to save the image on your hard drive so you will never lose it. The best artwork, and sites that carry the highest quality on a consistent basis are sites that most of us would be laughed out of or politely rejected. Places like Digital Blasphemy come to mind quite readily, as does flay.com and esp. the higher-end architectural CG show-off sites. These are places that either have a single person filtering through the whole thing with a highly critical eye, or a peer review process that I suspect would damage most of our egoes beyond repair should we fail to make the grade. To be perfectly honest, I wouldn;t dream of submitting anything I've done to these sites, simply because every time I go there, I see things that make me fall back in awe... things that people have taken weeks, sometimes months, to execute and post. If the subject matter offends my sensibilities, I simply pity the artist and move on. If it's crap, I won;t say anything and move on. IF it rocks, I'll go out of my way to tell the artist exactly why it rocks (err, "nice tits" doesn't qualify, though :) ) /P

DarkElegance ( ) posted Fri, 18 April 2003 at 12:11 PM

tits to not necessarily mean hits.....My best peace {in my opinion} was a portrait of a veiled womans face...not even the body. Why do most people do woman? I can only speak for myself and that is that I find the female form fascinateing. the amazing curves planes.,..movement ..grace ...sensuality ...is just amazing to me. But again there is the difference between someone puting two figures together in a sexual scene and most of the work I see in here...I am sorry but MOST of the work I see in here is not trash or bad renders. I see ALOT of totally amazing work on nude and clothed figures alike. What I am geting sick of ..is people siting complaining about how bad Renderosity is..how much bad work is in here....how they dont like the nudes.....yet they are not only looking once..but apparently STILL looking and STILL here. to me that doesnt seem logical. if it was that offensive the first time why are you still looking and why are you still here and complaining?

(shrug) - one reason that I hang around is because the rare kick-butt image I find is worth the eye-surfing past all the swill and beginners' attempts. Another is the freebies. A third is the tools and toys in the MP that pop up which I occasionally find to be worth my money. If I were just here for the art I'd have prolly left for greener pastures eons ago. As it is, there is good art here - my contention is that you have to winnow out the chaff to get to the tasty kernels of eye-candy :) /P

DarkElegance ( ) posted Fri, 18 April 2003 at 3:15 PM

as far as the beginers...we were all beginers at some point and their work is just as worthy as anyones elses. I mean no one grabs poser and does an amazing piece. but here a beginer can get the confidence to move on and continue working with poser and the other proggies. Two, then apparently you dont have as big a problem with Renderosity as it would seem. You like the content you like the work in it you like the things you can get at it. it seems you may have more of a problem with particular artists and not Renderosity. I have to wonder what started this thread..what piece you saw that made you go "ok I am gonna post" I have seen things in the galleries that were not what I consider acceptable..but all in all I think Renderosity galleries and the artists held with in are great! it is a place that people can come and grow and learn {god there are some wonderful tutorials that really teach you alot to get better renders} Beginers can come and test their wings. experienced artists can come and show and share and teach. ~smiles~ People can come and speak their minds and share knowledge. The support people get here in their efforts is amazing. I just wish people would not say "renderosity is this or that or porn filled or crap" when really they have a problem with an artist..a genry or a particular picture. Trust me Renderosity is not porn filled..I have seen some sites that would make prostitute blush! and Renderosity is not one of them.

oh, i see. this is really just the ALL NEW combination of the old "poser is not a real program" bias PLUS the "it isn't art if you didn't make everything in it" bias, wrapped all together with the "there's more nekkid wimmin than there are nekkid men!" deal.

DarkElegance ( ) posted Fri, 18 April 2003 at 4:07 PM

I wonder...since the complaint was about the naked woman what would they say if we started doing naked men in temples?

Some pretty interesting entries in the Michael pinup contest might serve to disturb the sensitive. Somehow, I can't see a Poser figure without wanting to cover its body up.

Mariamus ( ) posted Fri, 18 April 2003 at 5:31 PM

to be honest. I have learned to skip all the pictures with nude vicky's in temples.. because.. it's been done.. over and over and over again.. it is always the same.. almost everyone has made their own NVIT.. and as long as new members come, there will come more NVITs.. it's all a big copycatting action going on. and we love to hate it. But I doubt they are going to go away.. And someone said something about "best unsexy pics" nah, that would just make all bigots come out and put fat ladies (pardon the harsh words) in temples to get a laugh, and being a woman of size (hehe..) I'd be a bit offended, but then again.. the thing today is "the skinnier the better".. Maybe we should travel back in time and scoop ourselves some nude jewish Konzentration Camp hotties so we can take pictures and score some good cash! Ok, i'm rambling.. it's all pregnancy hormones.. go on about your business. LOL

DarkElegance ( ) posted Fri, 18 April 2003 at 7:27 PM

nahhh I dont think you are rambling, But it made a good point. I think the Nude vicky in the temple thing is a mandatory initiation. {hehe I just did one recently} Nudity ..I just dont see what is wrong with it. porn ok I can understand that one {open scenes of sexual acts} I have seen plenty of absolutly stunning nude renders in here. I think it also has to do with artists trying to capture the human form in a natural way. {afte all that is why art students are made to draw the bare human form to learn how it looks and moves} I mean you get a human figure to work with ....the possibilities are endless and the form is beautiful.

As someone who is somewhat new to renderosity, I'm quite impressed by a lot of the art here. Yes, there are a number of stock nude poser works, but now and then I come across one that truly impresses. What makes it work is the total package. The composition, the theme, the feeling of the piece. For a long time the medium that I work in, fractal art, was seen as "non-art", because people did not understand the creative process involved in it,which more closely resembles sculpture and photography than painting. I've heard all of the "paint by numbers" rants, but the bottom line is that everyone that does fractal art knows that some people "have it", and some don't. My experience with viewing Poser art has been the same. Oh, I'm sure a lot of guys like to do it because it's, well.... enjoyable to them. ;) But the bottom line is, some people "have it", and some don't, and that, of course, implies art. J. Jane

dialyn ( ) posted Sat, 19 April 2003 at 11:09 AM

The liberating thing about the programs used by those who populate the Renderosty gallery is also the greatest drawback. It's so darn easy to do anything that the galleries get crowded with imiations and repetitive themes because that's what beginners do. I don't care about nudes one way or the other. I think there is a world of possible ideas being ignored because of an obsession with naked dolls, but that's the choice the person makes. I see an awful lot of people grow beyond the cliche. I see an awful lot of people get stuck there. In all honesty, I just skip nudes as usual and try to find some things are really original and that I personally enjoy viewing. Vicky in high heels and a ridiculous outfit is a yawn. A moving graphic with thought and imagination is wonderful to discover. And we have a mix of both the beginners and advanced users here...and often it is the beginners who bring a fresh idea to the gallery. Oh well. J. Jane is right..some people have "it" (I don't), and some people don't, and that's just the way it is.

Scathach ( ) posted Tue, 22 April 2003 at 5:29 PM

Is the intention to turn oneself on, produce art, or both? The intention shows in the piece. If the piece is about sex in a self gratifying way, it shows up. The sexuality of the piece is empty and shallow. Oh, btw, Dialyn, I visited your gallery. You clearly have it. J. Jane

Wladamire ( ) posted Thu, 01 May 2003 at 11:49 AM

my opinion on the nude posers is the artist who submit it lack the skills to put the clothes on properly. It does take some effor to conform clothes(at least me) to a models body. I have submitted on poser figure in my time almost a year ago. Mine would never compete because guess what??? It has clothing on it. shock It is easy to click on Vicky pose her with no clothes throw some makeup on her and send her out in some 3d scene most likely created by props it is very easy and this is comming from a guy who rarely uses poser.

My experience as a pornographer is limited to such things as doodling pairs of breasts when trying to solving the newspaper crossword in the morning. Regrettably, the result sometimes annoyed my mother when she had a go at the crossword after me.

A Google search on "non-nude" yielded roughly 132,000 hits. That should be enough to keep anyone busy for a while. Surf on.
