Subject: Need to make fire!!!!!!!!!

Anyone know where I can find a tutorial for painting realistic looking fire in Photoshop? I have eye candy but cant get the look I am after with the fire filter. I'm looking for a torch or campfire sort of look. Thanks for any help.

Here's one, it involves text, but I'm sure the principles can be modified for whatever your need may be! Also doing a google search with the words photoshop and tutorial in it will show that there are a lot out there! (tutorials that is) ~ there is also some great ones right here...check out the "Featured Columns" in the Highlights section of the side bar. I hope this all helps! :-)>

The last time I needed someting like this I nicked a fire from a photo and blended it in. If all else fails that is an option too. There are some great (camp) fire pictures (free stock!) at this link. Search for 'fire' And links to other free stock sites.

Check to see if your librabry has a book called "Photoshop Studio with Bert Monroy" He has an excellent tutorial on how to make fire in chapter 6

  1. Create a new image and fill it with a bright orange. 2. Go Filter >> Pixelate >> Mezzotint, and make the setting Grainy Dots. 3. Go Filter >> Noise >> Median with a radius setting of 2. 4. Add a Gaussian Blur with a setting of 2. 5. Go Filter >> Distort >> Ripple, and make the setting 750, Medium. 6. Use this with Image type or cut it out for other purposes. With image type you can smudge tool the texture into flames.

I think this has been the best Photoshop Fire out there for a long time, and its a really short tutorial. The only drawback was that you need to have a black background, but the other day I saw an action at Adobe's Action Studio Exchange targeted at removing the black bkg from this effect. I havn't tried it yet, but it looked like it may work!

removing the black is easy. there are two ways to do this depending on what effect u want. 1> start with black on white, and when the fire looks good use hue/saturation (ctrl+u) to get whatever colour fire u want. 2> http://morepunkinstuff.tripod.com/filters/Mac/mac.html download the filters frrom here (the link's towards the bottom of the page) and use mac's remove white on the inverted image of the yellow on black fire. after applying the filter, you'll end up with a blue transparent fire which u can invert back to get the original fire colour. play abt to get what u want. for anyone who's reading this, please get hold of mac's remove white...it's one plugin i wouldn't leave home without. :-)
