Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 04 12:42 pm)
Posette is the Queen of Poser, in my opinion. She stood patiently while I twisted, distorted, and crumpled her as I was learning the program and she is still faithful to my needs. I like the Vickies just fine, but I always end up using Posette and her textures as much as possilbe. I love some of the Vic based models such as Tenten, and the Mil Kids...but for the long haul Posette is my choice. [And I never overlook mentioning that Kate the Shrew's "Katie" is my all time favorite character.]
I must admit that I have never had Victoria (You see, some people cannot buy via internet with Visa - hey, they have only Visa Electron! Oh, joy!) and was so to say - sentenced - to Possettes. I do not complain. She does require an extra amount of work, i suppose, but there are so many lovely characters for her out there! Especially those Japaneese ones. Anyway, how about Judy? I have Poser 5 and I can't understand why so many people detest Judy. Just like Possette, she doesn't look good by default, but that's the charm of it... er, her. I don't like using everything pre-done for me ?(like pre-cooked food, yuck!) I need to do mosy of the things myself, and that's the issue with Judy and Possette. Than they get that personal feel. And soul. All right, it's getting bored. If You don't believe something pretty can be made out of Judy, check my gallery. Months of hard work. Probably soon in marketplace. If You want her.
I always like Posette. I used her for a very long time. A recently went back and looked at Posette. She is still nice but the biggest problems were her mapping, joints and morphs.....alot of which have been updated by third parties as we all learned more. Unfortuntely though the biggest problem is that most of her old clothes are pretty primitive in contrast to Posette herself. She was made better but not the clothes. Biggest clothing problems are poor joints and out of date UV mapping. I have seen the Judy files and I think her major shortcomings where that the people who built her really didn't undertsand how to make figures for Poser. But then again noone really know whoo did the bulk of the work in making Don and Judy..just bits and pieces by different people. I know money was tight and the contact work was done by the lowest bidder. I know Victoria was Judy's template but I don't think they knew how to do it. I thought she might be fixable until I saw the mesh. She would really have to be rebuilt as a smoother, cleaner base model. Any figure can be salvaged and updated. It is just so time consuming. Most people just want to play right away. FYI: Interesting fact is Posette was never based on a real person. she was a scan of a scupture made by an artist hired by the Daz(then Zygote but the same people).

What I think it hard to "get rid of" with Posette is her nose. I can recognize that nose in almost all posette pictures. There's something about the nostrils.. AND the eyes as Eowyn said :o) Than, at the same time I think it's unfair to totally ditch Posette, there is a LOT of clothes out there for her and still for a lot of people the only female character they have. Again: Not all people have a creditcard.

It all depends what you are doing. If you want a big close-up shot of head and shoulders, Posette probably won't do. But if you are rendering a picture 800x600 with a full-length standing figure then Posette is fine, and most of the joint problems can be fixed with postwork (and Vicki 1 & 2 have largely the same joint problems).
I totally agree with Eowyn. I am sorry and not trying to be rude to anyone at all, but I can not stand Posette. I think Victoria 2 and 3 look so much better then her. Her eye, lips and nose make me shutter, and her body is just not as well done as Victoria. Only Posette figures I still like are Thorne's beautiful faereies, but even them I would rather they were for the Mil Girls or Victoria. And Judy from P5 looks even worse to me. I have seen one time Judy look good and it is a pack in the MP but I still do not think she looks as good as Victoria but dam that one pack made her look close.
Nod, Posette get's the job done as long as you don't get to close to her. Also with V2 beeing so versitale with all those morphs, it's Vicky for me all the way. Also, I can not for the life of me get a good render out of Posette, I've got a great deal of respect for people who manage to do high quality artwork using Posette. Axe.

Whatthe,You like Posette, you have a "feel" for her, then that is what you should be useing. Go to this link, and you can get Posette, that has been remapped to take all Vic2 textures.I've transfered some of Thorne's older P4 farie morphes to her, used one of StefyZZ tex's,and she looks very, very nice. Have fun,SWAMPAttached Link: http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=315404
Here's a link to a Posette pic I did some time ago, just to prove that she wasn't dead :o) I made a morph myself in an attempt to get rid of those nostrils... and here I think I succeeded. [warning image contains some nudity]FREEBIES! | My Gallery | My Store | My FB | Tumblr |

Never could stand Posette. Awful bends, ugly face, terrible breasts, too few vertices, really hideous butt. Eve is quite good, a vast improvement over Posette. Mobius' hires woman was cool, but never got any support. Remarkable mesh. Radically different from the other early females. Vicki is quite nice, I've managed to get rid of the Vickiness completely, just as I finally managed to transform Eve after enormous effort. Vicki Preteen is so-so, but has really bad hip and shoulder joints. Knees are also lousy. Steph has terrible hip joints, bent-pipe style. Put me right off, lost all inspiration when I couldn't even bend her thigh forward more than 10 deg. before she looked odd. Aiko is interesting, but her face was a huge disappointment. A real struggle to make her look anything other than pissed off. Koshini is incredibly cute. But almost too cute for me.... still haven't decided. V3 looks very good, still haven't really dived into transforming her. Very heavy mesh of course... but good joints. Love those shoulders! Judy looks to be a lot of hard work. Her face is eeeeeek! Body's OK though. Never did buy Dina. She looks too much like a wide-shouldered football player for my taste. The only one who could 'tame' her was Handspan. Lordy, I need to get a life..... :] Fish
I use nothing but Vicki 2 and 3 now. Posette's face just isn't realistic enough for me. Her eyes are shaped oddly, too flat or something. Her lips don't look lifelike, even with morphs and good textures. She's fine for distant filler characters or store mannequins, but I haven't used her since Vicki appeared on the scene. Melanie
Post 6 Posettes look pretty decent. The Posettes in posts 15 & 19 look terrible to me, especially the face close-up. Her nose! She and Judy need to look into plastic surgery for that area. :D :( Maybe I'm spoiled...I came into the Poser scene right before Vicki 1 came out. So I played with Posette for a little while, but Vicki just blew me away when she arrived on the scene. Posette, Dina, & Judy all need too much work to look good. Vicki just does. In fact, it's kind of a fun challenge to try to make Vicki look homely/ugly. :D I generally prefer to spend the time making images. :)

Actually, working with Posette is faster and easier if you are rendering in Bryce. The smaller mesh means quicker export-import, and a big advantage is that the whole body except eyelashes (and hair of course) can be done with one texture setting. Vicky requires at least three (head, body, eyeballs), and it was never logical or convenient to have teeth etc on the body texture rather than the head. This may not seem much, but if you are making, say, a comic with six panels to a page, the time saved adds up and the loss of detail doesn't show at such a resolution.

Am I the only one who prefers the p4fem over victoria? I dunno, there's just this essence I feel can be captured better with p4 than victoria. If you're not shooting for the next modern masterpiece.. there's something about the p4 models that capture more of a fantasy/animated and wider feel than the sort of feline look that all victoria models seem to end up having.
