Subject: Poser5 tip (possibly totally obvious)

Am I the only one who's noticed how slow the Materials room can get at times? Well I found one of the causes, it's the lights, the more lights you put in the slower the materials room gets. The Tip (finally) ----------------- Set up your model/s as normal with whatever lights you want but if you have to do anything in the Materials room delete all the lights (make sure you save the set to the library if it's a custom job). Deleting the lights will speed up the Materials room a lot.

Am I the only one who thinks that this tip is not totally obvious? Thanks for that.

That'd explain a lot and this tip isn't totally obvious! Thanks, that'll help speed things up immensely!

The texture preview window also shows your light being cast upon the material. This is especially noticable when you have an odd colored light in your scene.

I forgot to say all the previews will show up as black so you can't see anything till you render or add the lights back in but that's a small price to pay for the extra speed :) at least it is for me.

Perhaps the best soluation would be to set up materials with only the Poser default 3 lights. Then after your textures are applied add the rest of your lighting. How much can 3 lights slow things down anyway? Now if you're using Environmental Lighting sets or something like that I could see how it would make a big difference.

If you have a super fast processor then having the default lights won't slow it down too much, but for the guys/girls out there with 700-800Mhz machines no lights would be the best way to use the materials room :)

heyas; or use just one white light.

Or we could just all back to using Poser 4 which had a simple material dialogue without all the freaky nodes and plugs and connections. I'm of the mind that more complex does not equate necessarily to better.

That brings up one of my Poser wishes. Unfortunately it's daylight so I can't wish on a star... Why can't no lights mean 360 degree, flat, not shadow, global, house lighting? This would allow one to change to any view and see what they want to see during the posing, staging process. There should be a way to make lighting a later addition. P5 nodes, plugs, and connections continue to make no sense to me.

Poser lighting arrangements have always been my pet peeve. There was not improvement from V4 to V5. Hopefully Daz Studio will at least have point lighting, which I sorely miss in Poser when I compare it to other apps.
