THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Calling out Agent Smith.. heh

I have a small suggestion which I think would do wonders for the R'osity community: an IRC room. Don't know how used people here are with irc, but a chatroom on EFNET or some other network might provide a great place for interaction. I know there's a chat room that comes with the site, but from what I can see few people frequent it. IRC is a community on its own, though, and with a bit of work it could attract a large number of people towards the site. Good, bad?

Yeah, I think we've had somemembers suggest that before, but I don't know how the idea turned out, I'll ask the superiors, see what they say. AS

When I first showed up about a year ago, someone did make a rosity chat room on irc (don't think it was an official one), but even less people went there than the current java based chat. There's a few regulars that are there pretty often (rosity java chat, that is).

Yeah, I'm surprised more people don't use the chat here, but I'm always hearing about it not working, maybe that's why. Did you realise each Forum has its own personal/seperate chat room? Look at the top of the forum. Forum Moderators: AgentSmith, clay [Chat] AS

I've used the chat here quite often on main forum and 3DS..never once had any problems with it...this is where the hardcore Renderosity members congregate ;)People here are artist's...they are arting :) alot... instead of chatting...but was always a very pleasant experience...unlike lame chat rooms with kids talking about porn and how little sex they get or how much they want it..with potty mouths...I hope these rooms honestly stay small like they are...and dont get lame people in them...This Site Rocks Just they way it is....If it ain't broke....

lol, robnobs, you just found the definition of irc right there ;) l33t h4x0r j00 =D

an irc room would make for sharing files and props between members easier wouldnt it? i dont irc but its my understanding you can do ip to ip stuff with it... maybe im wrong... ive been in the chat room a few times... it would be nice to have regular chat-room sessions for getting to meet people... maybe talk about upcoming releases/patches/upgrades or even a simple chat/mixer where users can share experiences/teach methods and/or have topical question and answer periods...

hey cool, just went into the bryce chat room, of course I was in there alone, :( Will have to try it again later. Could be fun for OT talk. Gotta go to work now.

Dragonsbld ( ) posted Wed, 07 May 2003 at 7:05 AM

hmm.. funny.. there is almost always someone for me to bother when i go into the regular chat room here. (not the forum ones) and since i'm in there just about everyday i can tell you somedays, it gets so packed you can't even keep track of everything... plus most people know each other well enough there

I managed a community before and there is a way to intergrade IRC on the rendero website. Simply requires to change the chat applet used now in one that can access an IRC network. That way the chatroom is still where people are used to chat now but will also be accessable through an IRC client like mIRC or pIRCh.

Dragonsbld ( ) posted Wed, 07 May 2003 at 4:18 PM

No no, Flak, not all the time.. I sleep and go to work sometimes, I bother you the rest of the time.

I for one am glad we have the chatroom just for members here (even if its not always packed with people), other wise I might not get the help I need with my crummy artwork sometimes.

I've never used the chat room but that's because I don't have the Java virtual machine 'cos MS didn't supply it with XP. Even though Sun won it's case against Murkysoft in regards to this, MS still haven't released a version of this software for XP. When I've been involved in other irc chat rooms a group of people who regularly chat tend to say will be there at whatever time so that folk can arrange to be there too. Maybe we could do that here so we know when a session is scheduled. Catlin

Ages ago (maybe a year), in (I think) the lightwave forum chat, they had specific topic meetings once a month - where at an organised time, someone would hold like a Q and A session or workshop on a particular lightwave topic. That sort of sounds what you're talking about, catlin. The trick would be finding a time when everyone that wanted to make it could make it.

Stand in awe as the sun-nerd reveals the lost wonder of the world: I have 2 official sun T-shirts. One of wich is a sun/java T-shirt. Now I only need a Tux T-shirt and I won't need anything from Micrsoft again. Yipee!

Rayraz your friends site is great, I love it and I had a giggle on every page. Have you signed the petition for a patent free Europe? This is an area that needs to be looked at carefully because those in power are very good at sneaking legislation through in a very secretive manner. Catlin

Sorry for the late post, but I've been busy(W1K.com) so I had to comment on this. They've set it up so that the chat works on both the java chat room AND irc. Maybe rendo could set that up.....?
