THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Calling out Bryce enthusiasts everywhere...

I've been thinking... I really want to render a small clip... a 1 minute thing, let's say. Could we have a tiny contest out of it? Not that I care for the glory of it, but the competition drives me to work. I want to render something sci-fi, small clip of a story perhaps. I know that Bryce sucks at animation, but I would still like to try it out, learn a bit more about it. what say you... something like 240x320 or whatever, 1 minute long, love you long time sort of thing? drac

Sparr ( ) posted Thu, 08 May 2003 at 1:44 PM

You mean a 1 minute story...or that we string our one minute stories into one?

Jausse ( ) posted Thu, 08 May 2003 at 1:44 PM

I'm sorry. I've tried Bryce animation and I really don't like it. It takes too long to render and the results aren't up to it. Josselin

Drac, Im very up to that... I love doing Animations with Bryce because its pretty amazing what you can do. Anyways, yeah I vote for it :)

GROINGRINDER ( ) posted Thu, 08 May 2003 at 2:31 PM

Other than the render time and the fact that I cannot import Poser animations I love Bryce for animating. I think an animating challenge is cool, but I have nowhere to upload my animations to. My webspace won't allow it.

I did a 30sec movie in Imagine once.....took me 6 months....

daddum! I wanted to render something with premium fx. I added some music and looped the animation a few times. tada!

Rayraz ( ) posted Thu, 08 May 2003 at 3:19 PM

I made a one minute character animation once in one day (excluding rendering). How can a 30 sec movie take 6 months. Must have been really good quality. Cool soundtrack Max! That guitar is really awesome. But what's the exact challenge? Do we just make any one-minute animation? or does it need to be an actual story? And when's the deadline?

I'm slowly learning Bryce animation and this sounds pretty neat!

draculaz ( ) posted Thu, 08 May 2003 at 6:58 PM

groingrinder, you can import poser animations into bryce as far as I know

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Thu, 08 May 2003 at 7:17 PM

Bryce sucks for animation, Draculaz? (grins) Go back to Bryce 2, before it did ANY animation. Then go back to Bryce 5. You will behold the absolute and utter truth and glory of the new Bryces! The ONLY thing it doesn't do well is animate characters, and that's why they made Poser in the first place! Too bad Metacreations went out the way they did, those two could have been beautiful together. And as for everyone whining about render times? Two words : BRYCE LIGHTNING!

shadowdragonlord ( ) posted Thu, 08 May 2003 at 7:18 PM

But, aside from MY whining, I'd love to take part in an animation contest! Who's hosting, though? Agent Smith? (grins)

draculaz ( ) posted Thu, 08 May 2003 at 8:37 PM

hmm... as far as hosting goes I've got 5 gigs of bandwith a month. I'd be willing to host up to 5 people on my site. but there's other places where you can put it, plenty of free webspace that offers 'unlimited' bandwith. drac

Rayraz ( ) posted Fri, 09 May 2003 at 1:02 AM

The ONLY thing it doesn't do well is animate characters It animates characters just as good or bad as other models. As long as the character is animatable. I'll prove it for you as soon as I've got my showreel online.

i love this idea, i'm always animation 10 seconds or so of my favourite bryce pictures; see my yahoo group for some, so is there a theme ?, a storyline to follow ?, i find Bryce animtion simple and effective, (it would have to be for me) but i would love to know more about getting poser animations into it please, did i miss a chapter in the manual?

draculaz ( ) posted Fri, 09 May 2003 at 3:24 AM

rj, i don't think it's in the manual, it's actually exporting poser animations into bryce... o_0 i think. i never tried it. drac ps: let's make it scifi?

rj001 ( ) posted Fri, 09 May 2003 at 3:55 AM

okay so who does know how to do it, i thought it was only something on the 'Brycetech' gag for APril.

There are free web hosts out there, but mine won't allow downloads. Every time I put a zip file on my page for download my host delets it.

I use topcities.com.

To import Poser animations use 3rd party softwre called Susanna or Natural Pose or do it manually with my tutorial.

bikermouse ( ) posted Fri, 09 May 2003 at 8:06 AM

15 frames/sec times 60 sec = 900 frames times X hours per frame. You'd have to keep the frames fairly simple things like AA and volumetrics completely off in order to get X to a value of minutes rather than hours. The challenge would be to get something of acceptable quality in a reasonable amount of time. I was playing around with waterfalls last year and finally gave up because of the time involved, but bryce does ok at animation if you have the computer time to spare. Rayraz, If you were to group each body part seperately, Bryce has some potential with animating bodies using parenting(Agent Smith provided a link to a parenting tut a few days ago) ... I've tried the Natural pose demo it seems like the best bet. Although I'm tempted I don't really think it's practical for me at this point to do animation. - TJ (Time it's all we really have - all we really own.)

thanks Aldaron, that was quite useful, logical when u think about it, thnaks again. now are we all making a movie ? how about some one posts a plot, we all pick a scene each, then see if they go together. Anyone used to go to www.spacebattles.com ? i used to really enjoy that stuff.

yep spacebattles.com is the reason I got into this in the first place when I saw that what I've been wanting to do for years is finally affordable without having to shell out $1000's of dollars. :)

Pedrith ( ) posted Fri, 09 May 2003 at 9:43 AM

Can we do post work in after effects or is this strickley bryce only? Can I use poser for this contest as well?

Rayraz ( ) posted Fri, 09 May 2003 at 3:24 PM

Oops, I forgot to add quotes to the: "The ONLY thing it doesn't do well is animate characters" I meant to disagree with it. "15 frames/sec times 60 sec = 900 frames times X hours per frame" I once rendered a 96 sec animation at an 800x600 res and 25fps on a 300MHz system in 625 hours. (almost a month)

there's a program called natural pose, this allows u too import animated motions from poser into bryce and its works quiet well! :)
