Hello now i'm thinking i want to expand my poser potential by creating my own textures( i did it before, but it sucked) First about applying textures to characters, i know it won't look good because my face, say that's what i wanted to put as texture, would not fit well into the poser character. How the heck does one put a face to fit exactly a character. When i tried it, the texture lips where above the actuallips of the model. : ) and how do i apply a texture skin, from a photograph or someting. oh man i'm confused. I think for clothing it is easier, maybe, right? For example what if i wanted to apply a kind of lether texture for the skirt of V2 or something. thanks poser community

First thing you need is a texture template image for the target model. This is a 2D image that shows the UV (texture) mapping of the model's geometry just for the purpose of creating textures for the model. Without this, there is no way to properly align the texture to the features. If the model doesn't have a texture template image, get UV Mapper, load the .obj file for the model, work out mapping (if necessary), and save the .obj and texture template(s). There are many tutorials (and messages in this forum) about how to use UV Mapper in this respect. There are some good tutorials on making human model and face textures for Poser (or whatever). CakeOne has a marvelous "put your face on a Poser figure" tutorial. The link to the website is on the right menu under "WebRing Top 15". ------> (then scroll down). Check out 3D Cafe's Poser and texturing tutorials as well as those here and linked from here. There is also a set of tutorials for creating textures for a full human Poser figure available here in the Marketplace. Although it involves using photographs from a real-life model, many of the latter steps work irrespective of photos or painted textures. Clothing usually doesn't have features that require exact placement (lips, eyebrows, nipples, wrinkles, etc.). You can get away with a repeating texture on clothes. Not on a human - if you want it to look even remotely realistic. Take your time (baby steps). Creating a good texture takes time, patience, and some learning. I don't know that you want to start straight off by using photos for skin textures. Most people paint textures, at least, in the beginning. One of the best ways to figure out texturing is to open up the textures you already have, in photoshop or whatever, and work on them. For example, you can easily change the skin color, by using curves or hue/saturation. You can add tatoos to the skin, etc. Once you have an idea of what goes where, then you could try some of your own pics. mac
