You don't need to purchase expensive software for file conversion from .3ds format. You'll find plenty of freeware or inexpensive shareware on the 'Net that perform this function.
LithUnwrap (freeware)
MilkShape 3D (30-day trialware, $25)
Crossroads (freeware)
Well holli, in my experience, max's mapping is pretty sucky. You'd save yourself a lot of hassle by just getting uv mapper and doing it in that.
I export everything from max as 3ds, import to poser, export the obj and map it. No problems.
You can also go to the uv mapper forum and ask steve cox himself about this problem. He can usually answer pretty much anything, since he wrote the program.

Hello some small problem I have :I make my items with 3dMax. Some of the materials are bitmaps sometimes.
I export as OBJ (HABWARE) and import in Poser. Everthing is fine but the mapping does not fit anymore. Most of the time it's oversized.
What I did in the past was saving my object as 3DS.
I had a little program called "3d explration" I used for nothing else then to load the 3ds and save as OBJ.
When I import this file every mapping is perfect.
What is going on ?
3d explration was a demo version only and I don't want to buy an expensive software for only loding and saving my already existing file.
Is there any other way ?
And why is it like this at all ?
TIA
-Holli
