Subject: Need Help with a new Model (Phil, BloodSong etc etc?)

OKay been fiddling with this for the last 24 hours and I've gone batty over it. The foot on the Z and Y rotations drags the upper shin on the left foot.

Things I've checked.

  1. Joint Setup: Mirrored from right foot, problems don't exist there. Used FallOff zones to exclude the upper shin, no difference. Moved joint center around as well as the extents of the bend, very little difference.
  2. Groups: I've regrouped and imported the obj multiple times with "Make Polygon Normals" and "Weld Vertices" enabled. Attached below are screen shots of the offensive area's groupings.

Any ideas, or people willing to take a look at it? This was going to be a sale item when completed....

(And finally 3: Shin Grouping) And mentioning those people's names in the subject was simply because I've talked to them in the past. So any takers on this are more than welcome to suggest the fix :)

I use a rotation order of YZX or YXZ for the feet. It looks as though you have the rotation order on the left foot as ZYX or ZXY. This will result in the axial twist to be as shown. Both need to be as per the right foot.

Both are YZX, though when the bones were first created the left foot started ZYX. I switched that around with the joint editor. I had to do the toes on the feet the same way and they appear to have worked correctly. Tom

Ratteler, I'm using Wings3D for this particular model. I also took it into Amapi and Wings again to look for stray Verts. Though neither are top notch (I'm cheap on modeling apps ;) )

OK, don't switch the rotation order round with the joint editor.

Setting the rotation order at the time of figure creation in the Setup Room is OK but editing them later I've found produces errors. It appears to change the rotation order in the group that you are working on but not the additional cross references in the adjacent body part. You will either have to do some down and dirty editing by hand in the CR2 or, (and this is what I'd do), start over with the correct rotations.

Ahhh okay I get where you're going. Which references should I look for in the Shin and toes to swap around? Starting from the beginning would drive me up the wall after this long ;) Thanks you two btw :) :) Tom

OK you're a glutton for punishment :)

Copy the jointX jointx, twistY twisty & jointZ jointz data in the foot to the jointX lFoot_jointx, twistY lFoot_twisty & jointZ lFoot_jointz in the shin. I don't know exactly what you've done with the toe so I'll pass on that least I confuse (more). Go by what you have not the order that I've got here.

In practice what I'd do is wright a hierarchy file with the correct rotations and use that with the OBJ file you already have. Create the new figure and save to the library. Then copy the left shin, foot and toe over to your old CR2 using a text editor or CR2 Editor. Now load this revised figure into Poser and use Figure/Symmetry to get the joint parameters from the right to the left.

And you're welcome. I've gone through exactly what you are going through now so I feel your pain :)

That did the trick. Went into an old friend (Phi Builder) and recreated the CR2 before copying all the relevant parts over.
