Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 26 6:57 am)
The Sanctum Arts "solo" is pretty good, it's a little slow to render and I agree, theboots ar qite diaspointing, but it's definetely worth considering. On the subject of spacesuits, there aren't any, well, realistic ones that I know of, however there is a fairly decent environment suit at 3dCommune called Biohazard I believe, that's pretty good as it's not overly futuristic. Hope this hleps Jody
I'm afraid I will have to requests DAZ's technical assistance for the first time. I purchased the "Solo" suit and for the life of me, I can not load the torso armor without getting the ever popular (NOT!) and misleading "Out of memory" error. In case anyone wonders, yes, I deleted the objects .RSR file thinking it might have been corrupted. That didn't work. I later deleted the object itself and re-ran the load executable. That didn't work, either. Oh, one thing that just occurred to me, I can't remember if Poser looked for the object in a folder different from the one where it actually resided. However, I don't think so. Are there any other tricks I can try before I bother DAZ? Sincerely, Bill

I haven't had a problem with the solo set myself. But I used the PP versions in the library. As far as the rest go. there are a few out there. I recall there was a current P4 male and possete version of a nasa EVA suit. The poser world one is good but is a male version. There is also the foxbat suit, to me it look like a 2001 suit. Sadly one is hard pressed to find a free one of any type out there. Seems many modlers are nowadays going for the green. But that's just life and times.
Most of the suits I have seen are based on a jumpsuit, ie, skin tight, with a helmet added. For sure, the Foxbat is simalar to the 2001 effort, but that's only the headpiece. The rest of the 2001 suit is quite distinctive, with ribbed arms and legs, metal boot, glove and helmet seal rings, and a keypad inset into one arm. What I'm looking for is something different from the standard skin tight jumpsuit look, and something more reaslistic than the space armour models which are currently available.

There's one here for P4 figure (Dork). Don't have it myself. I, too, would lke to see some more realistic spacesuits. It looks good. Shame it's for Dork.

Good point, Penguinisto and Swamp. :)

Dunno about realistic ones, but Joerg Weber and I have a sci fi helmet in free stuff. Strangely enough, current thinking is that real space suits are quite likely to be skin tight in the future - kind of like wetsuits. I have a more bulky sci-fi space suit on my to do list, but god knows when I'll get to it. Certainly not any time soon :-(

I have those Steve, thanks. They ain't quite what I'm looking for at the moment. As for the future of suits, maybe they will become skintight, but they ain't currently. As for the "who is inside the suit?" issue, that's all well and good when the visor is closed or the helmet is on, but not too good otherwise. I don't want to have to faff around making grouped props from bits of Mike and Victoria just to use with a Dork type suit. I guess I'll have to get to grips with modelling one day. Or, I could make a polite request to you, Steve. (Great big hint) :)

Well, you can thank the soviets for the skintights suits. While the americans experimented with standard-style eva-suits, the russians experimented with a different system, using several layers of rubber to compress the body. This would keep the body from taking vacuum-damage. Several layers of insulating material are added as well as a heating/cooling-layer, finalized with a higly reflective layer. The whole system is about a centimeter thick and works quite well for short periods of time. But the system was never perfected. Hm... but I wanted to do several different spacesuit-systems for Mike and Vicky anyway. Could as well do it now...
Well, Joerg and Steve, I think you may have a market for your suits. I'm a PoserWorld subscriber, but I would certainly buy a good EVA suit or two anyhow.

Hey Joerg! I haven't been in touch for a while. I'm close to finished on the Blizard Boy conformers, but I've been side tracked by some other stuff I have to take care of. If you do some space suits, I'll conform them for you :-)

No problem... Take your time with the Blizzard stuff. I still have to do some props anyway... I think I will do an update to the old breathing-system as well as two new suits: One based loosely on the suits currently available and one I always wanted to do but never got to: A suit based on a hardsuit from Shirow Masamunes Intron Depot.
A hardsuit would be cool, but I don't know the one you're refering to. Can you link to a picture or something?

I am not such a big fan of the Guges. Call it a problem with my military background, but the Guges doesn't look like a military machine. Feet to small, hip armour (that's the part I would be aiming for as a sniper) to thin, legs to instable... I do prefer a more solid look. But I can't find a picture of the suit that I wanted to do on the net...
http://stevesartgallery.bryce-alive.net/ You'll find spacesuits here for Michael and the P4 Male. Not very detailed, though.

I'm looking for some realistic looking space suits, similar to the ones used by the USA in the 60s and 70s for the Mercury and Gemini missions. A good Apollo suit would come in handy, too. Also, has anyone produced suits similar to the ones used in 2001 or Alien? All the above for Mike and.or Victoria 1, 2 or 3 While I'm on the subject, has anyone here bought the Sanctum Arts "Solo" space armour from DAZ? I like the look of it, except for the high heel boots. Call me old fashioned, but I'm sure that combat armour would have more practical footwear. :)
