Subject: Desperately looking for a hi-res VW model, any help would be greatly appreciated

i need a hi-res vw new beetle to use as part of the navigation graphics for a local nonprofit vw club... preferably a free one, since im creating this entire website out of charity and id like to at least break even :) but since im nearing the deadline (they have a car show coming up and the info needs to be up on the new webpage), ANYTHING would do.. any type of hi-res VW model - old beetle, bus, golf, whatever, as long as its recognisably volkswagen i can make it work. any help would be appreciated.. im so desperate to find one now, been looking for ages. as a small incentive ill offer any product in my store to someone who finds one that i end up using. it needs to be high-res though, ive found plenty of low-res ones but this needs to end up realistic looking. the guy at digitalevolution.co.uk has this one offered as a free download, but you need to contact him to send it to you. judging by the state of disrepair his website has fallen into i dont expect hell contact me back anytime soon :( Copy%20(2)%20of%20NEW_BE~1.JPG cheers, -gabriel

Wasn't there one for sale over at 3D Cafe? I'm not sure, but I think you have to belong to the VIP club. Been so long since I visited tho, I don't really remember ;o). Laurie

im not sure.. found some in freestuff, but to be honest ive never been impressed with 3DCafe's retail models. there are osme nice ones on the De Espona collection, but i dont have $500 to drop right now on a website im creating out of charity :( this is why if at all possible id like to find one for free - im short on cash as it is, and im already losing money creating this site (time could be spent working on other things)... id rather not go into the red on this one :( cheers, -gabriel

Maybe this is good enough? It's an original style bug in lwo format. http://dmi.chez.tiscali.fr/models1.html Next page has a camper van in .lwo format, http://dmi.chez.tiscali.fr/models2.html

Also, CacheForce has a new bug at TurboSquid in Poser format, but that's $20.

downloaded those a week or so ago.. not high-res enough. they look decent as thumbnails, but when you render them up close theyre not accurate enough to do the job :( thanks for the help tho..

"but that's $20" thats $30 canadian :( if i must, as a last resort, ill buy one. but only because i promised to get this website done and i like to keep my promises. cheers, -gabriel

I saw one for free at a 3d model site, but I browsed alot of sites that day.... so there is a free model out there, you just have to find it. You could try asking around the modeling forums (maya, rhino, 3dsmax, etc...) here, I know the rhino guys do alot of cars. Wish I could be of more help....

I hear ya'. I'm helping with a VW club website but they're commited to a logo that was done in pen and ink 15 years ago, and they don't want to change it because it's printed on all the club jackets, etc. http://geocities.com/volkswagenclub FWIW (think it's bad now? You should have seen it before)

Maybe you could farm the work out to Guillaume d'Hubert at http://www.virtualbeetlemuseum.com. There's a site worth checking out: type I, II & III, Ghias, !81s, and look for the Buetler Bus conversion (http://www.virtuALBEETLEMUSEUM.COM/beutler01.htm) and the virtual restoration of a Hebmuller convertible! (http://www.virtualbeetlemuseum.com/merci.htm )

That New Beetle has the cool windshield wiper cover, too bad it doesn't have the Turbo wheels.

Well, I know you're looking for no-cost; but he offers up free wallpaper each month. Maybe you could e-mail him to see if you could use something for a link to his site. (I came back to the thread because I started thinking I hadn't been too clear, haven't seen an ebot message in ages). Also, lwanmtr has a VW logo in Free Stuff, but I went to his site and didn't find the Golf 3-door it's supposed to be for. What kind of navigation graphics, buttons or image-map? Are you going to give us a link to the site when it's done?

Blackhearted ( ) posted Tue, 27 May 2003 at 10:46 PM

sure basically im designing the entire navigation system to look like a new beetle not conventionally - it wont be a recogniseable car shape but the elements will use beetle elements, and it will be composed of metal panels, beetle trim, etc kindof hard to explain, ill put a link up when im done i give up - today was my last day to find a model.. i messaged the guy in the rhino forum, no cigar guess ill just paint it all from scratch cheers, -gabriel

lmacken ( ) posted Tue, 27 May 2003 at 11:40 PM

OK FWIW I found a Golf III 4-door in my Zips from 2000. The ReadMe lists: fgallard@tutopia.com icq # 38346158 That's only three years ago.

I've been looking for VW stuff myself for a client's job. Not having much luck. I contacted Duddly, but his 1955 beetle isn't done yet sigh I'm going to have to fudge it with photos and I HATE doing that
