For $79 you have nothing to lose, and you gain a fantastically versatile program that you can and most likely use for years to come! - Even if 5 is the last ever Bryce there is, people will continue to use it for as long as it stays compatible with their OS's I suspect. I for one will always be able to make use of Bryce as a tool for visualising & illustration. :)

I would like to be the devil's advocate in this case and tell you to buy it but keep another program on the side and learn that also. Despite Bryce being an awesome program, in a niche of its own, and now that niche is gone... not in terms of the interest, but in terms of the programs that are available. You could try vue d'esprit or something similarly priced (with the original Bryce price), but it won't be the same. Try to find another program together with you buying Bryce. Even if the community will continue to be here for another 2 years or more, you will get so used to it that you won't want to try something else ;) And my advice is that you should, even if it is just for kicks and nothing serious. M
Not really being devils advocate draculaz, as I would suggest the same, it's foolish and creatively limiting to use only one piece of software, but the point is, at the current price you can't go wrong as it will introduce you to what can be done with 3Dapps/landscape apps in general as well as being one of the most enjoyable ways to find out! I started with Bryce in 1998 and used it almost solidly for 4 years, but for the last year I have been experimenting and developing my skills in a more advanced package. The community was certainly an inspiration and encouragement to my further learning with Bryce, but I didn't need 'it' to actually just get on and be creative with the program! :)

It will be sad if there no more improvements to Bryce, but even so, the demos for the higher end programs (and even those for programs on the same economic level as Bryce) have not convinced me they would be worth the money and thus would replace Bryce in my Artist's Toolkit. I still have my brushes in case I ever want to do any painting in Oils or Acrylics. I will always keep Bryce around whenever I want to do digital art. In 10 years, 20 years, I don't believe there will a program that will replace Bryce in my heart or on my desktop (but I will keep an open mind, LOL). With Bryce and Photoshop, I believe that the quality of my work is limited only by: 1. my knowledge of the programs. 2. my talent and imagination. I find Bryce so useful, so essential to what I do, why would I suddenly stop using it because the bean counters and pencil pushers at Corel have decided that Bryce is no longer worth their time? If the Forum were to implode, and no one wanted to come here anymore (God forbid), I will still make my pitchers. I'm betting I'm not the only one. Tjohn

Bryce is a steal at its current price and for many of us it introduced us to the world of 3d graphics. There will always be more modern and advanced 3d software - but none of it will ever be as fun. I love Electricimage and I am learning Maya but I will always have Bryce on my machine - it's like a favorite paintbrush. -Scott
Well, people still uses pencils and charchole, and people will most likely use Bryce even in 20 years from now. $ 80 is almost what a game costs, and while games tend to get boring after a few times, Bryce is still as fun as when i started to use it

Was there an official press release from corel saying that Bryce 5 was the last rev of the program? or that Corel was going to stop distributing it? Where is that info? I didn't see anything to that effect on thier website.

weezerhopw, haven't seen any press releases that state that. Has anyone? Corel may be sold off completely, that's a real possibility.

this is all conjecture, rumor. No Facts. So therefore, no worries. Now im gonna go make some art instead of worrying about it. :)

Somebody dig out the recent posts about Corel for weezer! I am not personally 'worrying' about it - it's neither here nor there whether Corel drop Bryce, they are obviously not working on it's future - both 4 and 5 still work fine for me and are used regularly. The point being made in this thread is that at $79 it's a bargain regardless of it's future development or shelving.

Dang, found this earlier today (Bryce 5 full for $63.69), but now I can't seem to get the link to work... http://www.pagecomputers.com/cgi-bin/page/B0854002.html AgentSmith

weezerhopw, Conan Hunter (former Program manager of Bryce at Corel) has told us that there was no more work being done on bryce and that there where no future plans for bryce either. And stopping the selling of bryce in several country's is exactly the same as stopping distributing it in those country's.

Good Morning everyone, I was hearing all the news about Bryce being shelved and I was interested in buying it, but now I am pretty nervous. Is it still worth buying it now that nothing is going to be supported? For 79$, it is a great price, but if the community is going to go away, makes me nervous. Thanks for your info.
