Subject: Vue Render Engine

x-man ( ) posted Wed, 28 May 2003 at 7:31 AM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 4:23 AM

Hy guys, i'm going to render my new short film and (this time) i'm trying to make all with vue and poser (usually i use 3dsmax, lightwave, maya). The big problem is the vue render engine : too much slow. My system is standard: P4 3 Ghz, 1GB RAM DDR, HD 240 GByte, RADEON 9800 PRO and so on. And i'm trying to render a 5 second movie, 25 fps, 720x576 (PAL) The comparison with the 3dsmax render engine is embarrassing, and the same one is worth for the other programs. Someone can give me a trick to improve the performances of vue render engine ? Thanks to all. Best Regards x-man

With Vue 4.12 you have no choice. Just render. Group objects before you do so, use as less as possible lights, reflecting materials, blur.... With Mover 4 you can render over a network. Guitta

Yes i'm trying with vue 4.12, but it's too slow. Tell me about network render. Thanks. xman

Network render works only with Mover 4:-)

Yes i'm going to read the mover4 documentation and now i'm trying this option. So what you think about the vue rendere engine ? thanks.

For me the Vue render engine is very OK, it renders much faster then other software of the same price range:-)

The vue render engine is as fast as others that I have evaluated. If you have multi processors you will increase performance as Vue is multi-threaded. RenderCow's Net Render can dramatically increase you render times. You should consider using Final as your render setting of choice to increase the speed, unless you are in need of motion blurring. Consider using motion blurring in segments where it counts and turn it off at times that it won't matter. In the end... Size "does" matter (with render times that is). : P

I like the painterly feel you can get with the Vue renderer, but I must admit that to get good results the renders can and do take a long time. Compared to the other renderers I use, Cinema 4D's and 3DS Max's, Vue's is slow, and when using blur, unless you use a nigh quality User setting, they can be grainy...which can cause problems when rendering animations. For the price Vue's render engine is still good, but it almost makes you wish that they rewrite it before they add GI, or fully accurate caustics. If E-on does not, and add even more rendering effects we could be waiting months instead of days for a render to finish ;o) Cheers

If you allready use 3dsmax, lightwave, maya, why do you want to spend time with Vue in the first place? Vue is a cheap amateur software, while the others are pro. If you want to make semi pro tv sized (720x576) animation, I realy think you should drop Vue. When rendering advanced and pro animations, all software are kind of slow, that's the main reason why companies have render farms and rent render farms when needed. The animation parts in the pro apps. are also alot better then the Poser, Vue and Mover4 Bunndle.

Alekssander i really use this software... But i want to try to make this short film on vue, to test the final result and to test the possibilities of this software. You u want to make a landscape/nature scenes with maya or 3dsmax u have to spent a lot of time to make a good scene; in vue it's very simply. I think that the render engine of vue is the very big problem : slow and not too much professional. However i think that vue is the best world construction program and i amuse a lot working with it. I only hope in a new release with a new render engine. Thanks Best Regards xman

Alekssander I use Vue professionally, but not exclusivly. It's another string to my bow...never ever dismiss software because of the price tag! Cheers

Vue is a wonderful application for it's price, but you have to have a look on your polygon-count in order to keep the rendertimes in a controlled area.In my case i do a lot of modelling work in cinema and then i import it into vue.But i have to say ,that i do stills mostly.I made my experiences with Bryce 4 and i can say that Vue is much faster.:-)

I don't dismiss any software(still use metasequoia, and it's free), but you get what you pay for. And when someone got all this goodies, they shouldn't realy complain. ;) (Notice, I've stopped complaning...) And there are a lot of stuff that could be usefull in a landscape/ nature application, such as particles to create rain and snow, crowd control to control animals (an anthill could have been fun),better water control, fur on animals wouldn't have been wrong, and so on. But that would increase the price tag a lot. Oh by the way, we allready got it, its called Houdini, Maya and Softimage XSI.... ;P And X-man, you found the big limitation in vue.;)
