Umm.. not to be nitpicking, but for all the nice detail you've got on the guy, the shirt looks horrible.. cartoony even. As for the dork, well, in my opinion, it's just a matter of finding the stuff to de-dork him. Nobody does anything for the male.. I think there's maybe 2 transmapped hairs for him, 5 or 6 good textures, only 1 or 2 of which don't have stubble.. and it's hard to find good clothes for him, too. He's just neglected. Rosh
Don't forget my male face morphs :) But wow, Melanie, what a differance the texture made! I can't get textures to work like that for me, could you show us the head section of your map and enlighten me a little in regards to your technique? If I tone down the faces on my maps enough to get along with the mesh they just don't really make a difference in the render. What am I doing wrong? BTW. Maybe you could bump map the shirt with a linen texture give it a hint of transparency and scan a button texture on to a disc prop to put on the front. I can't get over how real the face and eyes are.
Nance, the shirt is from Steve Shanks' Poser World. I didn't take the time to texture it. Momodot is right, it could use some texture. I was mainly focusing on the face and hair. Thanks to everyone for all the nice comments. I'm hoping that maybe we can get some better male characters going. He's lagging far behind Posette. Melanie
That's wonderful Melanie! I'm working on a JFK Jr. texture, and you seem to have beaten me to it! I had better get the other Cosmo CD, I only have the pink one. I love good texture work. Sometimes I find a photo of a male model with chest hair that seems okay, but when I put it on a poser male, it looks too hairy- like Island of Dr. Moreau or something. I like the shirt, and I'm going to get one! Maybe you should keep it white but do a very subtle woven texture- maybe bump map only, or make the shirt a bit off-white so you don't need sunglasses to look at it. :-) -Talos
Thanks, everyone. The face taxture came from the pink Cosmo CD. The male models on them don't really look all that great, but when applied to the texture map, it looks OK. I forget which one this was. If I remember right, there were a couple guys on that CD. They were facing straight forward with pretty even lighting, so it worked out well. The face doesn't have to look that great on the original person, but when you apply it to the texture, it's amazing what you come out with. I've been on the search for male faces and whenever I find one that looks like it'll work, I try it out. If you find a good one, give it a try. Maybe we should put out a challenge for anyone who can come up with the best male texture. Any takes? Oops, wrong forum. I guess that should be over in the challgenges forum. :) Melanie
Oops, I have to make one correction on the texture. I said that the face came from the Cosmo CD, but it actually came from the i-Style CD. It's the last model in the list, called Zeljko. As I said, he's not that terrific looking on the CD, but on the Poser guy, he looks great. Oh, and several of you mentioned the eyes. Those are Catharina's (DigitalWoman) eyes. I use them on all my texture maps. Melanie PS: Keoto, sorry, I'm not into Aerosmith, so I wasn't aiming to make him look like the guy you mentioned. This is just a fictional character (actually a character in a story I'm writing). I haven't read a Harlequin in years, but I suppose he does look like the guys on the covers (they pick great looking guys to model for those covers) ;)
The short hair thing came into fashion in the United States after World War I when men's hair had to be cut for reasons of keeping down head lice. Until that point, there was nothing wrong with men wearing long hair or short. The hippy generation brought it back as a statement against the establishment. Or as George Carlin would say, "to piss off the squares". Late 70's and 80's Glam Rockers took long hair to wonderful heights (I mean that figuartively and truthfully. Motley used to boast about owning stock in Aqua Net hairspray). And I'll quote from Motley's first video tape when they were talking about filming their video Looks That Kill. Apparently some stage guy was giving them crap about their long hair, lipstick, and makeup. Nikki finally said to the guy, "Just because we wear lipstick don't mean we can't kick your ass!" A real man is confident about his looks and what he does no matter whether he has short hair or long, lipstick or not. I just prefer men with long hair. For me, I'm happy if it's down to the butt in the back. Glad you agree with me Melanie. Now if we can only get some long hair for male posers, I'd be happy. I desperately need long hair models for the poser versions of the characters in my vampire novel Shadowclash--The Awakening (available at www.buybooksontheweb.com for $16.95 plus shipping)
It's authored under E.A.Pope although I'm the primary author, the Swedish streetgang called the Snowlions was created by my co-author Sylvia White. I believe that the search only works on the title, Shadowclash, and E. A. Pope. I need to get it more advertising. I'd been wondering if there was some way to get a link up in the Renderosity store. Unfortunately, I presently am sans website. I need to get one put together as an advertising vehicle. My eventual aim is to recreate all the characters as Poser figures and use them to do illustrations, or an online comic, and/or short animations of key scenes. I'm still a long way from that point. I only have created the main character, Vyper, but he needs transmapped hair very badly to have the realistic look I'm wanting. I sent him all the way to Bushi to get his RealEyes installed on the figure. Most of the characters in Shadowclash are male but I've done a few renders of some of the female characters, some that don't appear until books two and three (Shadowclash II--The Harrowing is presently being written, and Shadowclash III--Bloodreign has a few pages written for it). The Female character Teaser for book 3 was in the Renderotica contest for last month. I haven't gotten around to posting her here. Any help from my friends here would be greatly appreciated.
