Congrats Jack ! If you don't mind my asking, how did you price the work? What sizes were they, did you print them yourself, if so, with what, can I have some of the money, .... ? No bull, selling your stuff is the ultimate compliment to your work and everyone should experience it. I am a member of a local artist's ass..ociation and participate in a few shows a year. Sold 11 pieces last time out, made couple hundred bucks, I'm shooting for the broke art buyers market. Donald - go for it, your work is great. Everybody's work here is great.
thanks everybody! @Michelle, I'd Snoopy dance with ya but I'd wind up stepping on yer toes... @Donald, put your stuff out there now! Don't wait, take a chance, you can't sell it if they can't see it! @mysnapz, yeah, you can start collecting it now for just 25 easy monthly payments of $99.99, address to follow... pics I sold are below... @star,and misha, thank you! @zhounder, don't just sit there, get to work! @doca, congrats on your sales, it is a feeling that I hope everybody on the forum can experience!! By all means, I wouldencourage everybody to look for thier local artist group!! And on pricing, this particular show, everything was limited to 8x10 framed or smaller and no more than $49.99 each. So I matted up some 5x7 pics in 8x10 frames and stuck them on the wall. As for how to price other work, a lady who runs a gallery told me a good rule of thumb was either decide how much you wanted to make by the hour on a project and multiply your time by that amount, or take your production expense (in my case, frames, mattes, inks, paper, supplies purchased to do project) and double that amount. Then double that amount, and double that amount, and then double that amount. That sounds kind of an odd way to price stuff but that's a common practice apparently. So if you have say $25 in a picture, you could ask $400 for a 16x20 framed piece and not be out of the ball park. For me, that seems a bit much so I've priced one that I have ready at $175 just to move it to get my name out there in the beginning. If by some lucky stroke of fate, there is any kind of "demand" for my stuff, then I could up the ante a little. Right now I'm more interested in getting my name out and my work seen, if it's in the cards for me to make any money out of this, that will take care of itself later. I don't mean to come sounding like I know what I'm doing, 'cause I don't, I'm just passing on what people have told me, because I've been asking anybody and everybody all kinds of questions trying to learn more about the art business... Jack
Damn, another bloody show off?!? LOL - nice going Jack m'lad..... y'see I knew all those hints & tips I was giving you would work out cool..... my invoice is running off the printer as we speak. What's yer fax number? ;) ROFL Nah, seriously good to see that there are people out there who are happy to give us money for enjoying ourselves..... (",)
TA jack for posting your pictures, Its really interesting to see. I have been toying with trying this, we have a local art week but Im never sure what sort of picture will sell, when you say matting do you mean mounted on card? And the pricing stroll on, just how many times do we double it. LOL :0 )

This is obviously a thread with a lot of interest. I can see why #1 was so popular, it is a great shot and people love old graveyards withe tilted stones. #2 surprises me a bit. It's a good shot but I wouldn't think that many people would go for it? I may have to adjust my portfolio a bit. #3 is another good one with mass appeal. People love shacks and dilapidated looking old structures. What's up with that, I wonder? I have to admit, I like them too. What, no color shots? P.S. I have a good source for matts and such, if you are interested. http://www.framingsupplies.com/ is where I bought my last batch of mats, backerboards and plastic sleeves. It was my first time buying the stuff and they were very nice and helpful. Prices were good and so was shipping. But, they are in North Carolina and so am I so the shipping may have been cheaper for me than some of you far, far away people. Check them out.

I sure don't mean to sound like I'm tooting my own horn but I just wanted to share some neat news with all of my friends here on the forum. I submitted 6 pieces into a small neighborhood art gallery show that opened last night and sold 3 of them right off the wall and a lady ordered a reprint of one of them and a gentleman is very interested in getting a reprint of another for a total of 5 sales!
I want to thank all of you for your support and tips and critiques so that I am learning to shoot better pictures and in helping me gain enough confidance in my work to submit it to shows. I'm exstatic(sp?) that I sold stuff in only my second showing. I hope this helps to convince those who are debating about showing or trying to sell their stuff to go for it. Thanks again to all of you guys for your support and help!
Jack
