Subject: Sewers 4 poser

Heya all. Just wondering if anyone knows where sewer props could be had for poser. Hopefully something that would fit in a medieval setting. Thanks in advance.

Not to appear too stupid. But what would be a sewer prop for that time period, not like that had "pottys"?

I was wondering the same thing. Ancient Rome had a wonderful sewer system, but the -most- salient fact about the whole medieval period in Europe was its complete lack of any kind of sanitation.

Yup. Complete lack... which is why they were still tossing the contents of chamber pots out of upper floor windows until the Victorian Age. "Gardy Loo!" and all that.... ;p Observant eyes noticed the chamber pots under the beds in the Bree scene in LOTR. However, some castles did have privy systems where there was a outlying room on a floor with drop-shaft for the effluent. The bottom of the shaft hung outside the walls. One castle was taken because the invaders climbed up through this drop-shaft. [no emoticon for this experience] Real sewers where water flushed through the channels may have been found in the occasional Roman villa, bathhouse, or fortification but most such structures were largely ruined and/or built-over by the Middle Ages. slot4.jpgNot sure if this was the one Hauksdottir meant, but Sptrup Castle, built 1525, (In northern Jutland, Denmark) HAS some of those loo-shafts, called "secrets" and rumor has it that it was indeed attempted taken by climbing thru these YUUUCK! They are the shafts seen at the side of the castle :o) But no sewers.

True, but I was thinking more of a fantasy D&D setting. Where all the monsters hide :) Thanks anyways though.

Actually... one of my ancestors.. Sir Ziggie Nice But Oft' Dim, Knight of the Polyhedral Table... was present during the attempted capture of that very Castle. Unfortunately... just after he entered the bottom of one of those 'loo-shafts' someone inside the castle decided to use the loo above. The person using the loo had severe stomach ache as they had for some inexplicable reason swallowed a gold coin the previous night whilst in a drunken state. As Sir Ziggie slowly ascended the loo-shaft a loathsome package descended at a far greater speed. In those days, things that go down where much faster than things that go up. The attempted raid on the castle was a disaster and the Knights involved retreated in disgrace, many including Sir Ziggie were covered from head to toe in excrement. Upon return to their base camp, they explained to their Commander In Chief, Sir Boris the Bold But Bad Breathed, what had occurred. As Sir Ziggie left the CIC's Command Tent, Sir Boris plucked a gold coin from his shoulder and declared, "All is not lost Sir Ziggie. At least you have this to show for your efforts!" From that day and henceforth, two new phrases entered Ye Olde Booke of English Phrases. 1. S**t on from a great height. 2. Stinking Rich. And... the expression "Gardy Loo!" was actually a misquote of an exclamation made during the thwarted raid upon the castle. The actual expression was... "Gawd it's Poooo...!" True... honest ;) ziggie

I am so glad that I'm between cups of coffee or this keyboard would need a bath, too. I was thinking of Chateau Gaillard, but Ernyoka's example is also "spot on" as some might say. ;^) Zoda, Try to find a copy of an old Dover book called "Castles, Their Construction and History" by Sidney Toy. He has floor plans and elevations for all sorts of castles, including many in the near east, and includes wonderful diagrams of where things as kitchens and latrines were to be found in such buildings. There were wells, storage places, oubliettes and all sorts of underground chambers as well as secret wall passages to aid in the defense. Everything from traditional moat monsters to tentacled eyes can be accommodated if you have the right sort of structure. I have other books on castles, many with nice color pictures, but this one gets to the heart of building one. Carolly

Lady Hawk movie, Robin hood Prince of Theves (Costner) had sewer like dungeon settings. basiclly just tunnels with grates and a channel or path for the water. you could probably build something simply with poser primatives to resemble something like that. dunno.

Well just for yucks and giggle I went looking for a site I had found a long time ago. Alas, I didn't find it but I did find these sites: http://www.medievaltymes.com/courtyard/12th_century.htm http://www.solis-media.co.uk/relocated/rpg_archive/floorplans/index.html As for making them for poser, there are many modular architecture sets by various people in freestuff and in the Marketplace. You should be able to assemble your own custom dungeon/sewer setup with those
