Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 26 6:57 am)
Gotta tell you, those are the cleanest files around. Go to Poser Technical over here on the right - bound to be a mac expert in there. You do use the mac converter don't 'cha? Can you open a .zip through Aladin(?) Expander? I'm all PC, but others have asked these questions, and 1 of these is usually the answer.
First, are you sure it's only MayaStudio's stuff? Your download program may be having issues. Second, you probably need to run them through the MAC converter as the files are PC packaged. MACs need a little help to be able to read them. There's a free stuff converter here which will allow you to use most Poser PC files (such as textures) for MAC computers. Are you using P5? Some of the textures get a bit whacked in P5 - it's not the texture makers' fault. This has happened with a good number of excellent textures from various people. Try applying a displacement map of .000003 or so to fix it.

I'm on a Mac and Maya's stuff works for me. Maconverter is needed though. Take a look at this page, there are several goodies for Mac users.I never had problems with StudioMaya's downloads. They all work fine for me in ProPack and P5. The textures look exactly the same in both programs. I would assume the problem is on your end and starting a thread with this topic isn't even very funny >:(. You could have expressed your question in another, more polite way as well!

I'm on a Mac and never have problems with Maya stuff- I always drop the entire runtime file I've downloaded onto Mac Converter before I install even though it doesn't affect jpg.s ....... I too think a more careful wording of your problem would have been a good idea - Studio Maya has released some of the best free stuff around, mac or pc !. Have you tried opening the texture files in an image editor to check them that way ? Are you using the most recent version of Stuffit ? It does sound like it may be an un-zipping issue to me. Its the first thing I'd check out. Is it only Maya files ?

I hope you get your problem solved tebop, but just for future reference remember: "It is better to remain silent and thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt." Due to the ethnic and cultural diversity in this community, it is important to be careful about how you phrase things sometimes. What doesn't sound rude to you may sound rude to others, so be careful how you say things. Just a small gem of wisdom for getting along with folks in this place. One I had to learn myself (even I slip sometimes...LOL) ;o). Laurie
Oh, and it just ain't nice to bitch about freestuff. Studio Maya is a long-time contributor to the Poser community and a very well-respected one, so anything derogatory that you say about them is gonna get you some flack. Truly I have never had a problem with their things, nor do I know any of my Mac friends who have either. If you use Mac Converter for every PC archive that you download, you should generally be alright. Laurie
I'm on an iMac and use StudioMaya stuff with no problems....But without Maconverter, most files won't work. You've just got to have it if you want to use Poser stuff. Try DL'ing Macinstaller, too, it'll simplify your Poser life. I keep aliases of both right on my desktop, I use them so much. And try the Macintosh scripting forum for advice--they've helped me a time or two when I was beside myself :)
xoco and jade - I don't think tebop and bebop are the same; this question has arisen before. I will admit that tebop can be - let's say - less than diplomatic, though.

tebop, i would suggest checking your hard drive for corruption with Nortons or some similar utility. I am also on a Mac and Mayas zips decoded and the jpgs were fine. Since you are not getting an error from stuffit expander, you can assume they are being corrupted when they are written to the drive during the extraction process.
tebop, I think I might have found your problem, it may be that relic of an browser you got, go get IE version 5 and see if you still have problems with mangled files. IE 4.5 lasted less than a day on my mac, it had a nasty habit on munging some downloads that showed up perfect on Netscape.
Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

Hi all, anyone here ever visisits Maya Studio the site 3digitalcrafts.net /studiomaya ? it's a japanese site i believe. And there are some nice hairs and characters but all of the textures seem to be corrupted..or do they not work on mac. I'm on a mac, and everytime i try to open them to check them out, it says Corrupted. Then i tried applying them in Poser and they appeareed totally weird, it was a mess. Maybe i need something special to fix them? or did he really post them corrupted?
