Hi all just wanted to thx you all for your help over the last few days, i just want to add a little note here about P5 [ here we go again lol ]. P5 has really got a bad rap by some people, well so be it , but for me it has been the best thing ever, i thought long and hard about geting P5, beause off the bad rap it got in here, im glad i did get it, ok its a big learning curve after P4 or PP4, but with all the help u get here it's not that bad, i just want to show anyone who is thinking about geting P5 what you can do with just a few Primitives and a simple chareter, gee ive onley been at it about 24 hours, and im not the quickest person lol... So here you go. once again THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP...

SORRY About the Nudity tag people....

Yes P5 is the best character software ever. There are other character softwares that have better functionality but it take more learning curve and more work than P5. CuriousLabs/Egisys will keep Poser simple as possible. And, P5 is more fun to work on than any character softwares. Waldo

How long did your render take?

ford3auss ( ) posted Sat, 14 June 2003 at 1:35 PM

Did not time it nakamuram, but it was DAM QUICK, im rapped mate...

-Waldo- ( ) posted Sat, 14 June 2003 at 1:42 PM

Nakamuram, It depends on the machine. My computer is superfast. -3GHz Intel CPU -1GB RBus Memory with 1600 GHz dual channel (RBus is damn fast than DDR but expensive) will upgrade to 2GB for faster 3200 GHz and more room for XFrog plants. -ATI RAdeon 9700 128MB DDR works good with dual monitor refresh rate but I would buy Nvidia Quadro 4 or higher for better refresh rate I used to own AMD and DDR its damn bad machine. I gave it to my wife and bought this machine. DDR has long strand RBus has short strand DDR is very cheap just like AMD and u get ripped off for some area inside processor that are extrmely slow. Intel picks up more data from RBUS than DDR Waldo

Blackhearted ( ) posted Sat, 14 June 2003 at 1:43 PM

well, i wouldnt say its the 'best' -- if your image were rendered in mental ray or even finalrender, youd soil yourself at the difference. but id go so far as to say that at the price range, poser5 is by far the best character editing/animation/renderer... youd be out several thousand more $$ for max/character studio/mental ray

-Waldo- ( ) posted Sat, 14 June 2003 at 1:46 PM

Do not buy any other main board brand because some capacitors and distributor cpu are slow. I bought Intel mainboard with 850E chipset mainboard and Intel CPU. It is a honest machine. Waldo

"DDR is very cheap just like AMD and u get ripped off for some area inside processor that are extrmely slow." not going to get into an intel/AMD debate here, but in terms of performance:value ratios AMD has intel seriously beat. for the small amount of performance youd gain by buying a new P4 with hyperthreading, you could build a dual processor athlon that would render its socks off. RDRAM also has much higher latency.. which to some is a very high price to pay. personally i prefer DDR, again performance:price ratio.

-Waldo- ( ) posted Sat, 14 June 2003 at 1:53 PM

performance:price ratio ? Go buy economic car Waldo :)

nakamuram ( ) posted Sat, 14 June 2003 at 2:34 PM

Ford3auss, What kind of system do you have? Waldo, Rambus doesn't rule anymore. The Dual DDR Intel 875PE and 865PE chipset motherboards with the Intel 800mhz FSB Hyperthreaded processors rule now. A high powered graphics card is wasted with P4/P5 since all rendering is done in software. However if you play 3D games...

What make you think I would buy such video card and dual monitor just for Poser? I certainly have some other 3D softwares for this machine. You think high powered video card is wasted sounds like you might have 15 inch single monitor with tnt video card to work with. You would need special and unusual ergonomic chair (pic posted) for you to work with very poor quality monitor and video card. Dual monitor and refresh rate quality is so demanding for my project. I could not work with single monitor with low refresh quality. Here is why; easy to read polygons and shape with smooth motion. I made many models in less time. I am perfectly happy with the machine I have. I can tolerate with the render time until I can find a machine that would give me zero-wait render time. Waldo

Dual Amd... sorry dude, i own a dual 2000+ machine and it rocks with maya! But 4 some reason, Poser is only able 2 use 1 cpu.. and seriously, 2000+ is much 2 slow 2 work whith p5.... (they'll implement it in one of the nex versions of poser) in my opinion, this is the worst lag of poser, because i have 2 work as fast as possible have a good machine 4 3d animating and poser can't use it ;[ but AMD ows anyway. U can buy a lot more power 4 ur money!!

jibrielson ( ) posted Sat, 14 June 2003 at 5:27 PM

Ok , maybe im newbie , but with customizer XP , i see Poser5 even in animation rendering never touch down my 512rambus memory , so give me another perspective why i should upgrade my memory thankz

nice work ford3auss. glad to see another satisfied p5 customer. keep up the good work!

Sigh, the lack of knowledge on these things is exactly what Intel targets in marketing and what forces AMD to use a rating system. "-1GB RBus Memory with 1600 GHz dual channel (RBus is damn fast than DDR but expensive) will upgrade to 2GB for faster 3200 GHz and more room for XFrog plants." There is no such thing as 1600Ghz Dual Channel RDRAM (or 1.6Ghz for that matter) and you cant "upgrade" to 3200Ghz. The highest RDRAM out is PC1066, and you will never be able to upgrade yours to any higher because your chipset will never support anything higher (I wonder if your current chipset even really uses PC1066). Sticking faster RAM in a chipset that cant run the bus speed needed to utilize it is like putting a ferrari body on a Yugo. Anyway, what matters with RAM is the bandwidth throughput it can achieve. Without calculating overhead, latency, etc, a Dual Channel PC1066 RDRAM chipset can offer slightly over 4GB memory bandwidth. Intel's new Dual Channel DDR400 chipset is at 6.4GB. Not only that, but 2 512MB sticks of PC3200 DDR will cost you less than half the price of the same amount of RDRAM. This is why Intel switched to DDR. "DDR is very cheap just like AMD and u get ripped off for some area inside processor that are extrmely slow." There's a reason a 2.2Ghz Athlon performs as fast as a 3Ghz P4 in just about everything.. That reason is because AMD's CPUs are the exact opposite of what you just said. :) Both companies make excellent chips.

Hi 3ncryptabl3_lick ive got a AMD 1.1 with 512 meg of ram, main drive 40 meg NTFS and my second drive is 20 meg FAT 32, my old PP4 is on the FAT 32, Poser 5 is on the main drive, i have installed all the SR, and i have been loading all my poser things in to PP4, the only thing i have laoded into my P5 Runtime is V3 and all her Morphs. My Poser 5 seen to like this set up, im very HAPPY WITH IT, well hopes that helps 3ncryptabl3_lick , take care see you all soon...

SORRY 3ncryptabl3_lick i ment nakamuram lol, dam is it hot in here or is it just me lol....IT MUST BE MY HOT AMD...lol...Well take care all...

This article has a good performance comparison between current Intel and AMD Processors. http://www17.tomshardware.com/cpu/20030521/index.html This site is a good source of up-to-date price comparisons of computer hardware. http://www.pricewatch.com This site has evaluations of various mail-order vendors. http://resellerratings.com Visit them all and draw your own "bang-for-the-buck" conclusions.

It is hot. Ive been golfing with my dog and im sweating all over :( the guy at the store i bought my components at said i didnt even need any thermal compound for my p4 cpu. that the black slick on the heat sink itself was all it needed. but i have 5 fans in my towers. it doesnt get particularily hot anyways. Now my old 550 got so hot i could feel the hotspot on my tower.

PabloS ( ) posted Sat, 14 June 2003 at 7:50 PM

ford3auss, Glad to see you got it all set up and running smoothly! (I remember your initial posts) Nice job on the render BTW!

1Freon1 ( ) posted Sat, 14 June 2003 at 8:00 PM

The TIM on the heatsink is all you really need for any CPU. People just scrape it off and use a third party thermal compound (ie: Arctic Silver) because the TIM is usually on there kinda thick and also using a different compound sometimes helps with getting better overclock results.

Not to change the subject, but that is the closest I've ever seen anyone get to a Frazetta lady. The face is not quite the right Asian blend, but --Wow. Is that Angelyna?

JohnRender ( ) posted Mon, 16 June 2003 at 10:51 AM

Not to change the subject, but I don't see any rocks in this render. I see a naked lady and a glass sphere, but no rocks. I though you were going to teach us how to make rocks and landscapes in Poser 5. If you mean "I used Poser 5 to make this image and it worked exceptionally well for me", the correct expression is "Poser 5 ROX!!!" : with an "x", 3 exclamation points, and preferrably upper-case. Yes, I know it's hard to remember, but those are the rules for using hip/ slang vocabulary.
