Haha... Clay, it's not a Bryce bug.. it's a user thing. Yeah, I've wandered off while making a scene, ending up with something completely different. Doesn't happen much anymore since I usually have what I'm making firmly in mind when I begin, but you never know when an idea will strike or something will work better as something else. =) Rosh
Thanks Rosh. That was what I was going for. I don't know what I am doing well enough to have anything firmly in mind. Of course my mind has never been too firm either. Usually, I am trying to put an image to a feeling to one of my poems, so that does probably lead to wandering. Sometimes though I actually am trying to do a particular thing. I think I am not good enough that I can really accomplish that. But, I do need to know if there is something I need with this patch. Y'all are gonna have to help me with lots of things. ;-)
A patch problem: the 4.0.1 patch for Bryce found at Corel's (not Adobe's) site doesn't seem to work on the new Corel release of Bryce 4 that I just bought. :( Looks to me like Corel made some minor changes to the 4.0 release (to add their name to the screens, etc), and then didn't update the patch (which notably is still dated Oct. '99) ... the result being that the patch fails to do the update because "menus.dat is an invalid version". I double-checked to be sure that 4.0.1 was not the version Corel was shipping, and it is not (the 4.0.1 enhancements listed in the patch readme are not present in the Corel release, which has an EXE version number of 4,0,0,13 BTW). I've also done the fresh-reinstall-and-patch as suggested by the patch readme ... still fails with the same message. I'd love to be able to write Corel an email about this, but their tech support email page is also broken. Doesn't bode well. :( Any suggestions? I really want some of those 4.0.1 fixes and enhancements ...
Bee, If you have the Metacreations CD of Bryce, then I believe the current patch (the only patch that's ever been, actually) should work. I'm pretty sure it's still the same patch that Metacreation originally put together, as it has a date that's way back to last fall (and that's exactly the problem). If instead you're like me and have one of the new Corel Bryce CDs, then we're out of luck unless Corel issues a new version of the patch. I for one will be watching closely to see what transpires.
It makes no sense, Corel should have relaesed they're version with the update already packaged with it. I wonder if it is an easy fix like a patch for the patch.lol all this so the splash screen says Corel instead of Meta? Corel's not off to a good start I'd say. Hawkfyr
“The fact that no one understands you…Doesn’t make you an artist.”
I installed the patch. Downloaded and installed the patch for the real movie plug in that the patch disabled. lol. I downloaded and imported the volumetric presets. Nice BTW. MYSTIC_FM..... Did you try this address for a feedback form for Corel? http://venus.corel.com/nasapps/FeedBack/index.html Good luck. They seemed to have a few contact options. Now whether it will merit using is another question. Yep, Hawkfyr, doesn't make sense.
Bee - Yep, I ended up sending one via that address earlier today. Only problem is that it's supposed to be for comments to the webmaster only. I wrote him to ask about the normal tech support email problem, and also asked him to forward my message about the Bryce patch to the proper department. Hawkfyr - I agree. Can't understand why they wouldn't ship the latest version, in the first place. But then simply posting the old patch to their website without actually testing if it still ran against their rebuilt version ... hmm. I guess very few people have purchased the Corel version of Bryce thus far (how long has it been out, anyway?). Anyway, now I guess I'll just have to wait and see if anything comes of my queries. Thanks all ...

Creative meandering? I was making a scene of the Painted Desert in Arizona. Somehow, I ended up with a cove/cliffs on the ocean. This seems to happen a lot. I don't mind, is interesting to see works evolve. Just wondered if I was the only one that went on tangents. Come to think of it, I talk that way too. ;-) Bee
