This is soooo awful and I went to My Profile and it appears that I have to fill in all sorts of information (again) before it will even go to the old default style.. sheesh, if it works why fix it??? I hate this new thing ...all changed just for a logo change?!?! argh... back to My Profile and TRY to get it to look right to me... if it will stop "Form validation error"... Lyne

Black with brown, white writing adn yes, links sooo dark blue can't see em... I don't want to be here... this on top of today's general frustrations... I come here to relax, not be annoyed.

ShadowWind ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 5:55 PM

Okay, logging off and on does fix the link colors so that they are readable which is helpful, but the visited link should also match, but will give you the benefit of the doubt on that one... Lyne, You have to fill out any additional information, like State and Country and other stuff they added a while back or the form won't submit...

ShadowWind ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 5:56 PM

BTW, the top of the page doesn't fit on the screen in 1024x768 with the medium font size (the default setting) in IE. Just thought I'd let ya know that...

Hi I agree I used to like the layout and whats with those naff dropdowns to selaect the forum at least put the go button underneath if we really do have to have them and well the colours and why after being on this site for over a year do they want more personal details? ok use the new graphics but please please lets have the old set up!!

devongrrl ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 6:09 PM

personally i hate the brown color on the sidebars and on the chat screen

OrcaDesignStudios ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 6:12 PM

This is probably one of the worst colour schemes I've seen on a professionally-design website. Why did you get rid of the colour options we used to have? Bringing that back would solve 99% of the complaints people have about the new setup.

BlueBeard ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 6:14 PM

Ya think with all the artists around here that they could have come up with a better default color scheme!

JHoagland ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 6:20 PM

I don't like the changes either. Why can't we change ALL the colors, not just the background and text colors? Personally, I LIKED my old colors (background, text, links, and all). I think someone else asked why you're taking away a feature that has been been available for years. Gee, it's like a new version of Poser- change the interface to make it look "pretty" and lose existing features. Also, the top graphic is too wide for an 800x600 screen. Yes, I know everyone must use a 1024x768 screen- on my screen, I get the "right" menu bar on the right on my screen (which is correct), but the top bar keeps going to the right. However, the only things I can't see are the "unimportant" stuff such as my name, the time, and how many users are online. I also don't like the pull-down bozes listed the forums. I had the list practically memorized. And, after years of the same look, I'm sure everyone else did also. And why is there a "Go" button next to the right of the pull-down box if the forum loads when the selection in the box changes? I have a question- did anyone ask (or think about) how these changes would affect the users? Or are these changes "for the good of the site"? --John

I suddenly realize why the bad color choice, its to make the new logo look good! The brown is the same as the background on the logo. I say we messed up there, if the logo is going to change the colors, then we need a different logo!

JHoagland ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 6:30 PM

Just another thing to point out: When I clicked on the pull-down box to go to my homepage, the status bar in IE said that the site was trying to load a page called "indexprocess.ez". Now, are you teling me that the "indexprocess.ez" script is being processed every time someone clicks on the pull-down box? Doesn't your server take a pounding from 1,600+ people clicking that box every few seconds? How is that more efficient than the old HTML link that takes you straight to the page? When I did go to my home page, I just love the black text against the dark brown background. Unreadable! I guess I could change the background to dark and the text to white, but I prefer a light-colored background. (Also, studies have shown that light-colored backgrounds are easier to read, but dark-colored backgrounds may be better for displaying images.) P.S. The next time the admins decide to change the site, I suggest someone does a usability study first. Experiment with different color combinations and poll the site users before making changes. P.P.S. If the above postings are any indication, will people leave the site? And if people leave, will that mean less people shopping... which means less customers, which means less money? --John

I have a scroll bar at the bottom because of all this wasted space down the right side.....

xoconostle ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 6:50 PM

JHoagland wrote: "Why can't we change ALL the colors, not just the background and text colors?" Hear, hear! That's exactly the problem. It was easy to get the background to black, text to white, as I prefer, but that now clashes really badly with the browns of the side and top bars, and the boxy I'm typing this into. Frankly, it's painful and distracting to look at this site, now, even with what changes I was able to make. On a more positive note, I see the drop-down menus as an improvment. Perhaps the freed-up space will be used for other things in the future. If I'm correct in observing that you've now put the logon/logoff link at the top, bravo! I've NEVER understood why a site wouldn't make that the most obvious of all links to click on. Also, the new site logo is beautiful, a classy improvement. In spite of my reluctance to add to the large number of complaints, I've just gotta wonder ... why these godawful mid-1970s denstist office browns? Hideous! :-)

xoconostle ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 6:51 PM

"box," not "boxy." :-)

Sue88 ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 6:54 PM

I don't like these changes either. Why was it necessary to do this? It was much easier and quicker to get to my favorite forums before. Not to mention the extra work we'll have to do to try to make things look better... :(

BlueBeard ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 6:54 PM

I do have to admit, that the other changes are definitely good! great even! But I don't want to look at the screen to find them! This color scheme is BAD!

romanceworks ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 7:02 PM

We like the new logo, but really dislike the new default color of white ... for us it ruins the whole relaxing experience of coming to Renderosity. Black was escaping into another world ... white is intrusive. We are still trying to get a black background with white text, to no avail ... very frustrating. I'm sure new people coming to the site won't have a clue what to do ... and art just looks better on black. We say ... change the default back to black with white text ... and if people want to change the colors to something else ... fine.

Doublecrash ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 7:23 PM

I agree with all the above. Can't wait to have the opportunity to change again to the old color scheme.

SeanE ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 8:13 PM

despite many many many comments posted in this forum AGAINST changing the default colours of this site - the admins went ahead and did exactly what they originally said they'd do anyway!... Yes ok, you can change the background color and the text colours (only after mass protest again) but against the puke brown/purple/whateverthehellitis sidebars it looks terrible We need to be able to change the link colours as well because dark blue on black is horrible and setting all text to a yellow of some sort also makes the links yellow before you click them (at which point they go dark blue) which is too much that way as well... "... We hope you enjoy the new look.... " It seems people are NOT happy at all. Why are you (the admins) being so stubborn in the face of popular mass opinion??? Don't you want people to use this site??? It seems not to me.

Same here, although until I saw your post I hadn't realised it. I was so unimpressed by the new design that I just assumed the absence of name, time, etc., was another intentional 'improvement'.

The idea that somebody could redesign a site without once bothering to see what it looked like at 800x600 is mind boggling. Not everybody has a 19" monitor and 20/20 eyesight.

What a shock I had tonight when I got home from work and visited Rosity. I can honestly tell you that the new look and colors SUCK!!! The default bright white background with black lettering will blind you...who's dumb idea was that? You can't even change the colors to get to something pleasing to the eye. I hate drop down menus also...they are a royal pain especial if you have a mouse with a scroll button. The old color scheme and layout may have been around for awhile but it was much more pleasing to the eye and easier to negotiate. I enjoyed coming to Rosity but after seeing these new changes and colors, I hate to even open the site. Even the items in Free Stuff and the Market Place don't look as good as they did with the old colors. That dark back color for the old site(which you can't even get now) seemed to make those products stand out and complemented them better than anything we can choose for a color scheme now. My opinion....PUT IT BACK LIKE IT WAS!!!!! I don't like wearing sunglasses inside.

Why are you (the admins) being so stubborn in the face of popular mass opinion??? SeanE - it's only been a few hours. If the admins decide to make changes to the current look (which is my personal preference), it will take a bit of time to pull off. Changing the site was not a minor undertaking so making more changes (even to do a partial rollback) would not be minor, either. And, no, I'm not making any promises as to what will happen, just stating that if there will be changes, it will take a bit of time to happen. Thanks, Cres Rendie Mod

mamajama ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 9:19 PM

ok personal color scheme selection is all well and good for the resident artists who work and contribute countless hours of hard work into this site and know what makes their work stand out... however the undeniable fact is that this site attracts many many new artists and art supporters daily who will have a first impression which lacks the punch and impact of the perfect color marriage. Why wouldn't the best possible color scheme, which enhances ALL artwork be the ONLY choice acceptable? It does exist its doable this logo is too classy NOT to continue to seek its best and most appealing union.

dialyn ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 11:46 PM

I do. So do some others. It's just too bad people won't give it a chance. I've looked at the graphics on the light background...they look stunning. The look is sophiscated and fresh. Oh well.

Darkginger ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 12:55 AM

The new colour scheme is terrible! I like the new logo, but this vast off-white area is so off-putting. I read the long thread where people were pleading for black, or something dark, and felt sure that, with so many complaints (suggestions?), you (the admins) would never go ahead and inflict this on us. I was wrong! Urk! Now where did I put my sunglasses - they've not been needed in Ireland so far this summer, but I think I'm going to have to wear them when I come here in future (and yes, I'll still be coming here, ghastly as it is, it's not enough to force me out!)

A_ ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 1:55 AM

I simply have to say - I don't like it either! 2 major things I don't like about the changes - one is the color scheme. I'm sorry, but it's really not appealing to the eye, and yes - I did like the old color scheme. It just seems to me that everything looked so much better on black. And the black doesn't go well with that brown, or with the dark-blue links.. We need to be able to change the links color too. And the second thing is the drop-down menus, just my personal taste, but I really don't like them. Now, the drop-down menus, maybe I can get used to them, but the colors.... I don't know. Just my 2 cents.

judith ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 2:08 AM

I can live with them after I changed the background color (#A39694). The white was a little too stark for me. I do have a teeny complain about the drop downs in that when you use your mouse wheel they switch and take you to points unknown :)) That and I use the "open in new window" option quite frequently and this makes it very limiting. I can definitely live with this though.

What we do in life, echoes in eternity.

Well.. here's my few pence worth... on the dropdown.. nice concept.. the opening colour scheme? ermmmmm... no thank you... light on dark for the opening page would be preferred... now.. the java based colour picker... every combination of purple or violet I've attempted ends up Olive Drab.... at least I don't have teh brown that everyone complains about 8 ) ko.. now the important info.. I"m running Opera 5.02 on an AMD machine... sigh.. the one thing I really really miss is the leave option , having to re-log in everytime I leave is highly annoying... not to mention hard on the olde eyes... well.. therein lies my opinion.. for what value you apply to it.. letters are sticking to the left side and this garrish, shitty brown... :::puke::: it is sooooo out of fashion. go surf around, look at different forums around the web, and if you are still unsure, put it to vote here!! please get rid of those dropdowns, i want ONE mouse click to change the forum!!!! new logo is very '80s and i guess somebody will like it. i don't.

JohnRender ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 8:55 AM

According to tammy (in another post), only 7% of the people here actually change their screen colors. So, if Renderosity has over 100,000 members, have all 7,000 of us spoken up yet? Can the admins handle 7,000 complaints, even if it is less than 10% of the membership? But, like the SeanE above asks, Why are you (the admins) being so stubborn in the face of popular mass opinion??? {If the admins decide to make changes to the current look (which is my personal preference), it will take a bit of time to pull off. Changing the site was not a minor undertaking so making more changes (even to do a partial rollback) would not be minor, either.} So, are you saying that they didn't make a back up of the site software, just in case people complained and wanted the old look back? It seems like it would be a simple matter of hitting "restore" or "copy" to have the old code base back. Then, again, it's probably a case of "The site will match the logo, period, end of story. If people complain, just say that we can't undo it."

Crescent ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 10:23 AM

JohnRender - I don't do the programming on this site so I can't give you the stats for this site, but working in IT, I can assure you that restoring something this large from back-up tape onto multiple servers is not a painless, 5 minute process.
