Subject: MOCAP vs Rotoscoping - ?

So the last few months I have been working on a rotoscoping routine for poser. (not every single day for the last few months but on and off. conceptualizing and trying) It's a bit of a process, one that I am evolving, but isn't anyhthing new. I'm interested in getting some feedback from the rest of you animators. I setup my camera, record some action (usually from the front) then use that as a backdrop to rotoscope in poser. Now it's pretty tough to do and it's certainly not proffesional. I can't say I have goten some great results, albeit, I have goten results, they have been fair and the quality depends really on my effort. I know how much BVH peaks the interest of any poser animator but what it comes down to really is just realistic motion. Which isn't too difficult to do by virtue of this process and it can be functional. Has anyone tried this? I only use 1 camera but I plan of getting a second on for matching motion in 3d space rather than guessing from one angle. If some of these poses (for mike and vicky) made it into the marketplace would they be usable? Would people buy them? Not standalone poses but 100 or more frames of motion based on real actions. Thanks for your input ;)

how are you Rotoscoping in Poser? The biggest Problem for me, seems to be the lag of seeing any avi in preview @ all.

Well I start with DV so 720x480. with a screen resolution of 1600x1200 I haven't found lag to be a problem at all. p4 2.4 w/512 win2k -mx440 w/64 Typically if there is any, poser lags in time with my bg avi but thats in playback and thats never a good judge anyways so what lag i get i ignore. Also work in wireframe -outlined, not mesh. Use the animation palette to move frame by frame and you can bracket a series of frames (the one move or twitch your wroking on) that will only playback and loop. (without comiting the entire timeline to playback) When you think you have something worth seeing in realtime, render out with the document settings instead of a full render. I suppose you should have a decent system that will not lag out tremendously when working with an avi in the bg. Although the lag can probably be dropped down a bit if you process your background avi to something that isnt taking up too many resources. (lower quality avi)

oh, sorry. I think we missunderstood, because of my bad language ;] My problem iss, that i can't see the avi on any probs. so i'm wondering how do u do your rotoscoping? I asked a few threads ago and many others came up with the conclusion that previewing avis in poser isen't implemented yet. gRobi

Yeah that whole avi-mat on the prop thread is waaaaay down there. That has nothing to do with this. In this case, the avi is used as the BACKGROUND in the document window. That avi you can see. (if you can't see that avi then there is a problem) Place the camera at the appropriate location relative to your poser figure (in outline mode) which is aligns to your avi-actor. You animate (rotoscope of sorts) your poser figure over the motions of the actor in the avi.
