Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 14 4:48 pm)
What exactly are you trying to do? From your original message I assumed you just wanted to bring an object over to 3d Max. Your last post suggests that you want to move animations as well. I am only guessing here, but do you want the character and the glass animated in 3d Max? "arm lifts drink to lips and spills fluid into mouth, arm lowers drink" I am not at home at the moment so I can not look into it but I am not sure that 3d Max is able to read poser animations (never tried so until I am at home I can not try it) I know you can export the frames but I do not know if 3d Max will read it as a animation or a series of objects? I would be inclined to ask the following; a) why are you taking it across to 3d Max b) do you know how to animate in 3d Max c) have you asked the same question in the 3d Max forum d) could the animation not be completed in poser
Max can't read Poser 5 animations without a plug-in. In fact, attempting to export from P5 results in a seperate .obj file for every frame. I believe Poser 4 Pro Pack can export animations, but I don't have it, so I haven't played with it yet. You could always export without welding vertices and keeping polygon groups seperate, though that would also mean each individual body part on the human character is seperate. It wouldn't be tough to weld those vertices back together once in Max, though. Sorry I can't help more.
Hey sabretalon. Sorry to be annoying you and thanks for your help. Bacially I need my character to drink a glass of water over 70 frames. In poser I have a basic cylinder linked to the hand. I will then in max link the real model of the glass and water to the animation of the cylinder and hide the cylinder. Answers to the following questions: A: To get a really good render in brazil. B: Yes very much. I want to save myself the agony of rigging the character up. C: No but I will. D: I plan to use total poser animation fof this project. Thanks again.
You are not annoying me at all! I will not be able to answer your question in full due to not being at home as mentioned above. One question I did miss of though! What version of poser are you using? I will try when I get home to have a look into it. One thought though, try setting the hand to hold the glass as required in poser and animate, remove the glass but keep the hand pose. Try exporting the animation and open in 3d max (don't know if or how it can be done just yet, but if you are behind your machine now you maybe able to spot the right options)then import the glass object and modify for each frame as required. Like I say I will try and look when I get home.
