Subject: This place and Poser is killing me

Dave-So ( ) posted Sun, 22 June 2003 at 10:08 PM · edited Wed, 06 November 2024 at 11:40 AM

Back a few weeks or so, someone mentioned if I ever sleep cause I'm on here all hours of the day and night...actually I don't sleep very much.... But I'm real tired tonight...worked around the house and yard all day...pretty much non-stop... so anyway, figured I'd check this place out before going to bed, and now I find myself loading that darn Poser program...I'll probably be up till 2am now

Tell me about it.... Since I bought Poser, its turned my life upside-down, all my money is gone, I don't get enough sleep any more, I don't want to go out and party any more....

tpriest ( ) posted Sun, 22 June 2003 at 10:23 PM

Whew! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. "Change this little thing and just one more render..."

Back a few years ago, Civilization, the first one, came out...it was the same way..up all night long, until my eyes were falling out...tears running down my cheeks from forcing the lids open LOL... no this Poser thing has me

Sleep? What is this strange thing called... sleep? ;)

Using that program will make you go blind, sonny! And if it don't, this new interface will!

I didn't know anybody with Poser went to bed as early as 2 am!!

FishNose ( ) posted Mon, 23 June 2003 at 4:29 AM

I reckon I'll get around to life and sleep and other boring stuff when I'm 80. Don't have time now, Poser calls - "Hi, my name is Fish, I'm a Poserholic." "Hi Fish!" (Chorus) "Trouble is, I don't wanna be cured see, so lay off me!" Runs for PC. Gotta render, gotta cruise those forums, gotta pick up that freebie, gotta buy a new Poser product, gotta reorganize that Runtime (it's 85000 files now) - :] Fish

Netherworks ( ) posted Mon, 23 June 2003 at 5:00 AM

LOL - me too. Though now it's part having fun in Poser, part making stuff for Poser. Wife hasn't played with her copy of Poser for months, but I think she may to be able to spend time with me. LOL. Actually I do take breaks for smooches and movies. heehee.

I guess this is the ultimate addiction, And I have it just like FishNose, I don't WANT to be cured. The mere THOUGHT leaves me with cold sweat. AAARGH and now I'm about to leave (in a few days) for a WEEK with practically NO internet access..... AAAARGH.. I WILL bring my laptop so I WILL be able to do Poser work. It's just not as fun when you can't get your daily fix of Rosity to spice it up... Not to mention browsing Free Stuff and Daz and.... AAARGH..... I don't WAAANT to go on vacation under these circumstances...

And if Poser isn't bad enough on it's own... you can get infected by other programs aswel just by coming here. Cybermonk pointed out Wings 3D to me a while back. Saturday I finaly started working with it, thanks to a simple to follow tutorial by Draculaz. So I got to bed at 3:30 this morning, and was awake until about 5 contemplating on how I could make a detailed car in Wings 3D.... And working out, in my head how to make a wheel. Plus side.. it only took 45 minutes to do the actual model :) Cheers, Axe.

FishNose's comment reminds me of a great bumper sticker I saw the other day: "I'm not an Alcoholic. I'M A DRUNK. Alcoholics go to meetings."

I just traded Ever Quest for Poser. I spend hours on Poser just like I did in Ever Quest only I havd something to show for it. I don't get any sleep on weekends at all. I am crusing the forums and looking for the freebies like everyone else. If it wern't for work I would be in front of Poser stuf close to every waking moment. I guess what I am trying to say is that Poser saved me from being a Game Geek and now I am a renderer..... what is worse. LOL!!! JK!!! As for money..... I might as well have a coke addiction. Ok, that is a bit extreme but I think there are a few out there that can understand that statment. I need new stuff so I can render so I can get new stuff so I can render..... LMAO!!! Gel

Poser tends to ruin my sleep from the other end. I always hit bed at about the same time (1 AM). But if I leave an animation or a script unresolved, the solution will inevitably hit me at 4:30 AM. Bang! Fully awake, neurons churning. Nothing to do but turn on the bloody computer and strike the final chord. Then I can go back to sleep for a while, even if it's 10 AM by the time I'm done.

Hey... what's wrong beeing a game geek? I played EQ for 3 years and I'd still be playing it if my GFX card wasn't bust (no 3D hardware exeleration anymore).

geoegress ( ) posted Mon, 23 June 2003 at 6:32 PM

you know your addicted to Poser when you can't wait for winter to return so ppl will leave you alone and you can hybernate in front of the screen.

Spit ( ) posted Mon, 23 June 2003 at 7:00 PM

This addiction is perfectly normal. Don't let anyone try to convince you differently. It is the non-Poser users that don't have a life!

melanie ( ) posted Mon, 23 June 2003 at 7:04 PM

Well, I know one thing, I've probably gained 20 lbs. just from sitting in my desk chair playing with Poser for the past...what...five or six years now. My sedentary life has definitely taken its toll. Not to mention that my housework has suffered, too, just because I have to render that one last image. LOL Melanie

BillyGoat ( ) posted Mon, 23 June 2003 at 7:20 PM

The best day in my 'poser' life came when Jeff H answered my question with "Yes, you can have as many Poser installations (on different partitions)as you want..." So far I have 3 Poser 4s and 1 poser 5. Haven't used P5 yet. I strip down each one to the bare minimum. Cause I WANT IT ALL!! Oh yeah, 2 80 gig hard drives help. and a lot of fans. No Cure, LOL!

Is this the Poser-holics annonymous meeting? Hi I'm jane and I am a Poser-holic too. I got addicted to poser about 6 months ago, and found it my gateway drug that opened the door to renderosity and much brokeness (Is brokeness really a word?) Anyway, I have stayed up till dawn on numerous occasions (too many to count now) just looking at all the images. Even worse, I have a credit card set aside my computer deemed strictly for renderosity purchases. I am so glad I am not alone here. I hope there is no cure for me, as I am not ready to part with my poser/Renderosity addiction or my many household computers (I am up to four now - one for each member of the family). Jane.

Gelana ( ) posted Mon, 23 June 2003 at 11:02 PM

ACK!!!! BAD PLACE FOR THE CREDIT CARD!!!! Trust me I know. I have stock in Daz3D now. LOL!!!!

LMAO !!! This calls for some serious psychotherapy from a guy (no, not me) who described the problem of creative addiction perfectly before the PC had even been thought of ;o) Enter Erich Fromm (from "The Anatomy Of Human Destructiveness", 1973) : "Observations of daily life indicate that the human organism as well as the animal organism are in need of a certain minimum of excitation and stimulation [...] Accidents, a murder, a fire, a war, sex are sources of excitation; so are love and creative work [...] a different kind of stimulus, one that STIMULATES THE PERSON TO BE ACTIVE.[...] The person who is driven by the simple stimulus experiences a mixture of release and thrill satisfaction; when s/he is "satisfied" (from the Latin satis-facere, "to make enough"), s/he "has enough". The activating stimulation, on the contrary, has no satisfaction point - i.e., it never makes the person feel s/he "has enough", except, of course, when normal physical tiredness sets in." ...And sometimes not even then LOL In other words, folks, you suffer because love and creative work are simply far more addictive than "the usual suspects", that's why we get so helplessly hooked. "No satisfaction point" ! [Insert ominous drum roll here] As with all good psychoanalysis, Fromm's analysis makes one's problem perfectly clear, and offers no way whatsoever of getting rid of it ;o)
