Hello, My name is Mike... I believe this bein' the first time I've been to the forums... Well enough of me and now more of my question... I'm trying to do the whole Poser & Bryce thing. I've tried exporting the Poser character into Bryce... however it doesn't keep it's color... I've noticed that you can do it vice versa; render a scene in Bryce, then use use it as a background in Poser(with much better looking people I might add). My question is, is there a way to export the Poser figure into bryce and have it keep it's color? Peace, Mike P.s. Yes, I've posted this question in the Bryce forum too.

Search Free Stuuf for an utility called Grouper. It makes it way easier to export Poser to Bryce. With their colours :o)

Go to Castiron Flamingo's page (link). There you will find the Grouper tool and tutorials how to use it.

Hi Mike, I have Poser 4 & 5, Bryce 2 Through 5, Mojoworld 1 & 2, and Vue D'esprit 3 & 4. I rarely if ever touch Bryce for anything anymore due to several reasons, but one of them was because of the difficulty in importing Poser models. Now don't get me wrong, I still have Bryce installed on my PC and still play with it, and I am still amazed at what people out there are still doing with the program. (A pox on Corel for not advancing the developement of what was a fine program.) I don't want to start a flame war over Bryce vs. Vue, it is a matter of choice. I tend to like Vue better, there are others who are Brycers, and more power to them! Render on people! I fell in love with Vue D'esprit, especially version 4 which allows direct import of Poser files. They come through flawless almost everytime. Every once in a while I will find some little problem, but not often. I have attached a render from Vue with a imported file of Michael 2 suited up in RunTime DNA's Elric gear. Both he, the pillars and the dragon above are straight imports from Poser with no touch up, and you can see he came through with all his colors intact. Bear in mind that Vue 4 right now only works with Poser 4 and does not support Poser 5 completely. I use Poser 5 to make files to import into Vue 4, but I am using the folders still in the Poser 4, as this is where Vue looks for the geometry files and textures, and it also needs the Poser.exe in the Poser 4 folder to work correctly. So if you really are looking to Poser for creating figures to export to other apps and are on a retricted budget, then you might take a look at Vue 4. (Cinema 4D and 3D Studio Max someday!) I have just now started to try and use Poser 5 for making complete scenes instead of exporting them to another app. I am still fighting with those damn lights. Lighting is the most important and tricky part of any 3D program. If I remember correctly, Bryce wants all the textures for your Poser figure to be in the same folder as the obj file for the figure. I remember copying all the neccesary files to a common folder. Also, you need to select the one of the eyeball geometries on the each of the figure's eyes and make it a glass like texture or the figure will have those damn completely white eyes. JAS

I didn't read down far enough. It appears that there will be an update for Vue 4 here soon that will allow Poser 5 to work with Vue 4. JAS

The best way I've found to import Poser figures into Bryce is to do the following: 1. Export the figure as OBJ (be sure to use names) 2. Run the OBJ through Grouper, a freeware program available here: http://ww.castironflamingo.com 3. Import the object into Bryce 4. Youll have to tweak the textures in the material editor, but Grouper makes this much less of a pain than it would have been otherwise. Good luck.

Poser figures can be brought into Bryce. There are some tuts at this site on the bottom left of the page. Here's a bryce render.

make sure you turn off gamma correction. that will eliminate that washed out look that bryce is known for.

Thank you everyone :), this helps out a lot :D... I do have 1 or two more questions... The first one might sound kind of dumb, but here it goes: Do clothes come last when posing? If not is there a way to make the clothes "stick" to the person... I'm kind of new to poser and dazed. My second non-combo question is : Is there is a tutorial that could give me a better understanding of Poser so that I don't have to bother you fine people with my newbie questions. Thanks again, Mike

There are lots of tutorials for Poser :o) A good place to start is the Poser FAQ, there's a link at the top of this Forum :o) In general you do not POSE clothes, you CONFORM them. Select the clothes and in the Figure menu, hit Conform. Naturally the clothes seleted must be made for the character, you can't conform Posette's (P4 Nude Woman) clothes to Victoria.

JAS - I used to struggle with exporting and importing Poser figures into Bryce and when I saw how easy it was with Vue, I simply switched apps. I love the way it brings everything in together and I don't have to remap or mess with anything except the position of the figure in the scene. I also think it renders beautifully. This is not a slam on Bryce, more Corel for not taking the time to support this. Having read a few newsgroups on Bryce, many Bryce users were upset that this support had not been included in 5. This is my first Vue/Poser render.

Super render! Yes, Vue's pz3 import is the bee's knee's! I love it for that! But I've found that if you want to change materials on anything (most people don't, so no problem) I find it easier in Bryce especially if I've used Grouper.
