Subject: Anyone know whats goin on here?

Hi people, I've just done a couple of renders and this is the result. There are black lines around the eyebrows. Is this the transparency map? I'm using Vue4 fully patched to 4.12 on a windows box. The renders were set at ultra, 300dpi, 3507x4960 and saved to disk as a tif. Oh and the model is Vic2 with Yuma texture. Any ideas what's going on?

snif! No idea, such a thing never happpend to me. Maybe somebody else?? I don't have Yuma.

I've not seen that either, Sentinel. I don't have Yuma texture, but I have Yazoo/Yoda. I can give a try tomorrow and see if I can duplicate it (same artist made the textures). Beautiful eyes!

Well, that's definitely the outline of the eyebrow material, but I don't know what could cause it, unless the transmap itself is flawed. Have you tried it with a different eyebrow transmap?

Thanks for the quick replies; Djeser, good idea I've got yazoo/yoda myself and I've just set the box up to render again with the same settings using yazoo and I'll see what it's like when I get home from work in the morning. MikeJ, I'll try another transmap when the above is finished.

either the transparency settings are a little off, or the upper eyebrow is casting a slight shadow. In Bryce I'd just select the upper eyebrow mesh part and hit Delete. I guess you can do that in Vue too (haven't done a face closeup in Vue yet.)

This ia a common occurance in Bryce with Mike. This happens when the Eyebrow objects intersects with the forehead. Vic and Steph don't have this problem because the natural position of both eyebrows does not intersect. What this looks like to me, is that there is a morph target forcing the eyebrow objects to intersect with the forehead and thus the interaction. If the character map uses the eyebrow objects, try either selecting and moving the eybrow objects SLIGHTLY away from the face or checking the face settings in Poser and reimporting. If the texture does not utilize the eyebrows, delete them. Hope this helps, Will

Thanks to all of you for the input. What the image doesn't show is that the lines are not just above the eyebrow, but all around it so it's perhaps not a shadow. The test with yazoo is still rendering so I'm not able to try anything else yet. I'll have another go later.

Just got the yazoo test from the render box at the same settings and as you can see the result is the same. This is Yazoo texture on daz pt girl, with all the resolution settings as before. I'm going to have to have a think about this.

I think you will find that if you delete the upper eyebrows, the lines should disappear. Hope that helps. Di

In the top picture, I tried reducing the bump to zero in Vue for the upper eyebrows. Still had the weird lines, as you can see in the second pic. In the third pic, I went back to Poser and dialed the "brows gone" into the negative, around -.150. That seems to have fixed it except for a slight shadow on Yoda's right eyebrow, just above it, but I will play with it some more. Pretty strange; I haven't noticed that with any other characters, but will have to try that later.

Yeah Djeser, you said it, Pretty strange. I'm trying another render now with some settings gleaned from diandra's comment on deleting the upper eyebrow. I'll see how it comes out tomorrow morning.

I tried to delete the upper eyebrow in Vue, but only found it in the material summary, not in the "body parts" of the imported pz3, so couldn't figure out how to delete it. I did see that on import, the bump on the upper eyebrows is at 1.0, and thought that might cause it, but when I reduced that to zero, the lines still showed up. I'll do a couple other characters this morning and see if the same thing happens; I've never noticed it before, but I don't do portrait-style closeups that much. I'd like to see your results; I'll post mine here.

The problem is certainly with the upper eyebrow, as you can see, - sorry for the false color - Had thought that I'd be able to alter it in poser before bringing it into vue. (I can't duplicate the lines in poser) Unfortunatly the new render I did was identical to the last. Like you I can't see how to delete this in Vue, I've tried different texture and trans map combinations in poser for the upper eyebrows with no luck. Will sleep on this and try again.

When you're- in Vue, expand the Victoria import (click the + ), then select head, and bring up the edit object box. Select split, then you can select the offending mesh part and delete it.
