THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Tutorials for Bryce 4...I know, I know....

OpusCroakus ( ) posted Sat, 28 June 2003 at 3:32 PM ยท edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 10:02 AM

I am prolly one of the dinosaurs that hasn't upgraded to Bryce 5 yet, so after exhausting my net searches in a five hour time span, coming up with mostly top Googled sites that contain so many broken links I'd like to shove a fork up my nose, I'm wondering if there are perhaps a few good, obscure sites that I just didn't pick up on. There usually are with graphics.

I'm specifically looking for tutorials on building good cement block walls, (not brick walls) medical instruments, spider webs, old rusted body drawers found in a morgue, surgical tables, etc. I'm building a turn-of-the-century morgue, if there IS such a thing. Also, keep in mind that most of the tutorials are not written for the ground-up beginner; they already assume you have an extensive working knowledge of the program, and my knowledge is base at best.

BTW, I'm Opus, new to the place and been using v.4 for about a year now, but not as much as I'd like. Now that I've got some time, I intend to learn this puppy inside-out.

Thank you for taking the time to read/respond. I love googling and gawing at everyone's work--very impressive.

Thanks,
Opus

If you really want to learn Bryce 4, purchase a copy of Susan Kitchen's book, "Real World Bryce 4." Most of the concepts also apply to Bryce 5 if you decide to upgrade.

Cool--thanks for the speedy reply. I should also have included in my request some textures and materials. Any of those would be helpful as well. Opus

1 look in the box that says Bryce forums and you'll find a tutorials link and a bryce related link 2 you probably won't find tutorials specifically dealing with what you are doing. 3 check out www.3dcafe.com for free models as well as other sites since Bryce imports most of the common formats from other programs.

Thanks again. I did check out the tutorials link above, as well as 3dcafe and have downloaded a few objects, but most of those don't tell you they're not v.4 compatible until well after you've tried to import them. sigh Just some of the problems I've encountered. I did a search for the book aforementioned, and it's pretty expensive. Not a complaint, just an observation. Is there a magazine dedicated specifically to Bryce, like Photoshop User? I will have a closer look. Is this forum specifically for generalised Bryce topics, or is it also the place where you can seek help regarding specific functions of the program? I've also found a couple of Usenet groups dedicated to Bryce, but saw the Renderosity link and was curious, so I've not fully absorbed everything the Usenet groups have to offer in the way of advice. Thanks, guys, much appreciated. Opus

Try www.amazon.com and you'll find it for about $25 but even at full price the book is well worth it. Anytime you need help for just about anything just ask. But also try a search on the forum as your question may have been asked and answered many times in the past (ie exporting models from Bryce :) ) As for models, are you talking about model from the Renderosity free stuff or 3Dcafe? Anything from 3Dcafe should be importable by most any version of Bryce except maybe for the newer versions of 3DS.

Hmm.... Spider webs.. Sounds like a challenge, I think I'll be doing some Volumetric texturing tonight!

Use Amazon's "Used and New" section, you will find RWB4 there for cheap. Right now it's at $20. here's the link; http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/offering/list/-/0201354381/all/ref=dp_bb_a/104-7268287-3571158 AS

Yes, I saw that. Still a little more than what I can afford at the moment, but I'll pick it up soon. Thanks for your trouble, appreciate it. Opus

On textures, I'm sure renderosity's free stuff has a lot that are ready for bryce. http://www.mayang.com is also a nice place to get photographic textures. Most of the stuff you need can probably be modelled in Bryce with some patience of course.
