Subject: Do I need to edit Cr2 to do this?

VIDandCGI ( ) posted Sat, 24 June 2000 at 3:24 PM · edited Sun, 05 January 2025 at 10:12 PM

OK guys, in creating a new figure, I need to delete an 'xRotate' dial. To do this I can set limits to zero, but I would rather eliminate the dial. To do this I am assuming I will need to edit the Cr2, am I right on that? s there any easy way to do this, any application that makes it easier? Thanks in advance. VID

You can delete it in Poser with the Heirarchy Editor. Open Menu/Window/Heirarchy Editor, check the "Show all Parameters" box, find what you want to delete, click it once, then hit the delete button. That should delete it.

I'm under the impression that you can only delete things you have added, like morphs, from withing the Heirarchy Editor, but I ran into the same problem and used CR2 Editor (which is around here under another name, I think) and that did it. I'd try and stay away from manually editing the CR2, most of the time, it is something like 2000 pages long in most cases, life is too short!

Morph Manager does EXACTLY THAT, and it's free!..it's lying around here somewhere...in the Free Stuff section I think, Mike

Mike, he was trying to dump a Rotation dial, not a MT. I don't believe Mason's MorphManager will do that. (...been wrong before though) :-) In the CR2 editor, does he not also have an option to just Hide the dial without actually removing it? - Just in case he wants it back sometime.

Nance- If I remember, I deleted it, but there might be a "visability=1" line, or something, that could be set to 0, but I don't remember seeing it. Best to make a backup of the CR2 first anyway, just in case!

oopppss...my mistake...sorry, I hope I didn't create any false hopes :) Mike

I tried it before I posted, by loading the business man, opening the heirarchy editor, and I deleted the "open lips" parameter. I didn't try it with a rotation dial, but it should be the same. I am using P4 with the latest patch, by the way.

Doohh!! You mean after I get a figure's morphs adjusted the way I want for a scene, I can dump all that extra weight, all within P4?! I've been lugging around all those extra, unused, MT's cause it was too time consuming to go into MorphManager, do the surgery, and bring the figure back into the scene. Doing this in the Heirarchy Editor sounds much faster & less trouble , or have I misunderstood. (Never really fooled around in it) I've sometimes been accused of taking the long way around. Try it you'll like it. At least you're trying to pour the Coke in the "right" end.

LOL! I did give it a try - what an eye opener. This will save tons of disk space and time. However, although I could easily remove MT's, it would not let me delete any Translation, Rotation or Scale parameters, so, unfortunately, it does not sound like the answer to VIDandCGI's original question.

wyrwulf ( ) posted Sat, 24 June 2000 at 10:56 PM

You're right. Morphs go away, but the others won't.

Back to the subject, there is a Cr2 editor in free stuff http://www.renderosity.com/download.ez?uploadid=1521 and another one at http://users.neca.com/dwilmes/cr2edit.html

K, thanks guys I'll give these a try =)

bloodsong ( ) posted Sun, 25 June 2000 at 10:14 AM

heyas; yeah, the heirarchy editor seems stubborn about deleting things it thinks are important. in fact, i have some magnet dials on some body parts that no longer have magnets, and it won't let me delete those. sheesh. in the cr2, find the body part's xrot dial, then look in... ummm, the xrot's channels. first, leave the limits at 0/0 so dragging the body part around doesn't accidentally twist it. then find hidden=0 and change it to hidden=1.

bloodsong ( ) posted Sun, 25 June 2000 at 10:17 AM

oh! one other thing; also look for 'force limits =0' and change that to a 1, for that parameter. (or for that body part, not sure where exactly it is.) then if people turn off limits, they still can't x-rotate your piece. um, just be really REALLY sure nobody would EVER want to rotate it, or you'll drive them nuts. ('course, if it's something silly, they'll already be nuts for wanting to do it, but... ;) )

VIDandCGI ( ) posted Sun, 25 June 2000 at 10:18 AM

Thats the way I did it eventually, I manually opened the Cr2 and changed 'hidden' to one. Thanks to all for the suggestions =) VID
