Sounds interesting. HOW do you do that?

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
I think you're supposed to do it in file manager, right? that is.. not from Poser itself. I was a bit confused at first too :o)

So if you pou the shortcuts to an rsr and a cr2 in a library folder, the thumbnail shows up and the character loads nornally? Doesn't work on '98 (not surprisingly - I need to get my Win2K system back up) You can click on a shortcut in the file open/save dialogs - for instance loading a PZ3, but shortcuts in the library folders don't shou up at all. Win2K handles shortcuts differently so I imagine this will work for any program under that OS. One thing I never took note of is whether the shortcuts have to be on an NTFS partition. Be interesting to know if it's all the OS or the OS/filesystem combination. Under '98, the MSDOS filename are vicky.cr2.lnk (for example) though in Windows, it wouild show up as simply vicky.cr2, even with all extentions visible. On an NTFS drive, you can also create "hard links." These are like super shortcuts. The references stay correct even if you move or rename the original file and deleting a link should not delete the original file. Here's a link to a utility for creating hard links. NB - hard links work only on one drive so you can't have a hard link on C: referring to a file on D:"Democracy is a pathetic belief in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance." - H. L. Mencken
Uh... Wierdly when I do this, not only does it not work but it prevents Poser from running at all. It starts and immediately crashes. I'm running XP, and I discovered tonight that this is what's causing my problem that I've been having for a week now: See Here
Well, if you can duplicate the error that sounds pretty definite. I did confirm that there were changes to folder shortcuts at least in Windows 2000. Also NT 4, 2000 and XP will try to locate the file a shortcut is point to if its not in the proper place but only on an NTFS partition. All kinds of possibilities for Poser to blow up I suppose.

Sorry about the trouble i seem to have caused. The shortcuts dont work if you place them in the poser runtime. This is what i did, and it works for me: make a new folder, and name it as you like. in this folder, make a folder named library. in the library folder make folders namned: camera character face hair hand light materials pose props Now you have an empty copy of the Poser 5 library folder. Add this foldertree as a runtime in Poser 5 In Windows file manager: Put shortcuts to a runtimelibrarycharacter folder in your new character folder shortcuts to a runtimelibrarypose folder in your new pose folder and so on. You can also make your own folders in the new folders. An example: Make a folder named Victoria 3 in your new pose folder in this folder you make folders named Pose, MAT, Injection. Make shortcuts to the !V3...INJ and !V3...REM folders and put them in the Injection folder you made. Make shortcuts to the !MAT V3 folders and put them in the MAT folder you made. Make shortcut to V3 Pose folders and put them in the Pose folder you made. The foldertree you made works like the one in poser 5, you can only put folders or shortcuts to folders in the folders directly under library. I hope this clear things up a bit.

Poser 5 accepts shortcuts as files or folders.
Instead of moving files and folders, make a shortcut and put it where you want it.
The possibilities are endless.
