Buzz... thanks for playing our game... Graphics cards make alot of difference in all graphic work/games, including poser. The faster the graphics the less time your cpu has to wait to send it the diplay info..... A fast cpu is very important to crunch the floating-piont math or ray casting... but if it takes your card seconds for every redraw of your screen, editing becomes a chore.. even at low res.... hope this helps
Amboni, check the cache size and speed on the CPU. The Intel chips currently out generally are running with a faster, larger cache than the (currently available) AMD ones and thus run much faster for CPU intensive operations (like rendering). As for graphics cards, try to find either a Consumer one with 16 or 32 MB RAM (64, unless you're using one of the Dell machines desinged to USE 64 MB correctly, is a waste of money - even the manufacturer's admit it, but release the cards because some power will pay for it anyway) or a professional one with at least 8 MB RAM on board. The chipset doesn't matter THAT MUCH for rendering (Voodoo and such are designed mostly for games), but the NVidia ones seem to be the best for most 3D applications. I've generally been happy with my ATI 8 MB card, though... ATI is supposed to release a new chip this fall that WILL (or so they claim) affect 3D rendering (if the software uses it), and especially animations by including interpolation codes on chip; until then (or maybe even after), only the highest level videocards affect renders.
RAM is of great importance to 3d rendering. The less disk-swapping your machine has to do, the faster your image will render (as well as allowing you to place more props and figures in a scene). With 512Mb, you should have very little problem in that department. CPU - as I understand it, the Athlon chips from AMD have smaller, slower cache than the current crop of Intel chips. Certainly running an 800Mhz (whether AMD or Intel) will speed up your rendering times noticably (to say the very least grin). I can't speak for the current crop of AMD chips but the one machine I had with an AMD chip caused me a boat-load of problems, mostly with apps other than Bryce/Poser. Since then I've stuck with Intel and had no problems. Video Card: the card you have is an excellent card - from the writeups I've seen - and 32Mb should certainly be able to handle everything you throw at it. The current NVIDA TNT cards are excellent - especially the TNT2 Hope this mild rambling helps you some Paul

For poser: better an athlon 800 or a coppermine 800? i think that the grafic card does not count much.
