Here is a tutorial for your people request using 2D images, they even have a couple of TIF's available for download to do the tut. Sorry cant help you with the flamingo. Not bad at all for one of your firsts. The horses and the background, right?
I'm fairly sure that the Poser demo can export, so you might want to give it a shot, hopefully someone can give you the link for Grouper.
I havn't worked very much with 2D planes, so I can't give you any advice, but I think that Claymor would be your best bet, because, believe it or not, this man is a 2D plane.

And there's a flamingo here, you may have to download Pixels 3D to open it and export it to Bryce. You can also browse through 3Dcafe. Think there are some human models there. Better then nothing. To use a photo, youll need to do a transparency map, where the character is white, and the rest black. No need to apologize for asking, thats what this forum is here for. :)

Sometimes I use terrains for people. Look at rj100s parrot in the next post. It's an excellent example of using terrains for characters. 3dtotal has some excellent characters in 3ds that import into Bryce. Go to the freestuff button on the top menubar. click models. The character page shows up automatically. I'd post a direct link but it's an active server page. You have to click on the links from the front page to get there. They have a lady elf with a bow, pirate, etc. Good Stuff!Well, for people, you can browse through the free Poser stuff here at Renderosity. You won't be able to pose them, but just import the .obj files, to get the feel for that.
Then, Poser 3 was free with ... Computer Arts, IIRC. Try finding that.
Flamingo, can't help you. Found one on cadmonkey.com, but got 404 on the link.
For those who already have Poser, there's tons of birds by Lyne's Creations at vistainternetproducts.com. There's even a flamingo with 24 ready made poses for $17:

For people that aren't going to be close to the camera but in the background and not need much detail you can use terrains, lattices and metaballs plus primitives to get general shapes and all that should work. The Bryce content CD (or is it already in the object presets?) has a wizard made of terrains.

herne: I don't know what tutorial you're asking about,I used the link up above that electroglyph provided for 3dtotal and I got the 3ds model from there. I have since found out that I can boolean a negative primative with this model and cut her in pieces. Then I can piece the pieces back together, yeah its a lot of work, but I don't have poser and from what I gather getting a decent poser pose is a lot of work too. Now if I can just figure out how to put clothes on her, lol. Right now I'm doing a nudist beach scene. Lots of tweaking still to do on it. I'm hoping to post a wip tomorrow for crits and comments here in the forum. Anyhow, you'll learn a lot just reading this forum too. Its a great place to be. Ang

I remembered this, too. A while back Glas made some posable dummies in Rhino(tired of having to use Poser to make correct proportions). Catlin kindly converted them to Bryce format for me, and I set them up for posing in Bryce. Glas is now hosting them, you might want to try them out. They don't look very realistic, but they come in handy.Could model people using metaballs and primitives if you are keeping the camera that far out. At that distance you will not see too many details on the people. Pants - square and two cylinders. Shirt - rectangle. Shoes - rectange. Dress - rectangle or cone. Hat - flattened sphere or flattened sphere and cylinder If you can't get poser or you can't find the right models, think about making your own.

Hail and well met :)
I've been looking at the Bryce galleries and I was wondering how you get people in Bryce pics without having Poser. I have done some nice pics but they really need people in them for them to come alive. I'm a Bryce "newbie" but I'm open to suggestions.
Also does anyone know where I can get a pink flamingo model for bryce? I need one but I've been unable to find a free model of one. Can anyone help me on either or both of these subjects?
Thanks in advance, Herne
