Subject: Question about 3D Canvas Pro (and advice for anything else?)

gambler1650 ( ) posted Mon, 14 July 2003 at 3:28 PM · edited Sat, 10 August 2024 at 5:17 AM

Greetings. I've gotten the 'game programming' bug again recently and am wondering if anyone has tried 3D Canvas Pro ($70.00). Somewhat expensive compared to Milkshape 3D ($20) which I've also fiddled with a bit, but appears to be perhaps a bit easier to get a handle on. I plan to try out the demo version of it, but the promised ease of use animator has that going for it. So my first question is, has anyone tried it yet. My second is, for anyone who has tried it, would you recommend another package over it?

Milkshape is awesome. I don't know about 3D Canvas Pro, but for low poly modelling MilkShape is awesome. It's so easy to make exact things, it's great for everything, once you learn it. It's a favorite among modellers for Half-Life mods.

Why not use a combo of Milkshape and GMAX? GMAX is Free. They work well together and GMAX is baisically MAX without NURBs, splines, and a few other knicknacks.

Thanks for the advice. I've also looked at Wings 3D based on a recommendation and like that program too. I've played with 3D Canvas Pro and really like the way it feels, though it doesn't play well with other programs. Had to shut down Zone Alarm Pro (not an issue so much with my router handling the same job), ICQ, Weather Bug and SETI@home just to get it to run smoothly. GMAX might be nice too, and I'll take a look at it, but if I'm not mistaken it has a royalty clause for anything made and sold. Mind you, that's getting way ahead of myself, but Canvas looks like it has all the functionality of animator, renderer and modeling programming that I'd need in an interface I can use easily. Anyone interested might take a look at this site: http://www.amabilis.com/products.htm Milkshape is something I'm still playing with, but Wings 3D might have all the functionality I need to create low polygon stuff in it, and then transfer to Canvas to do some extras. sighs Too many toys.
