Initial impressions of this program are positive. I don't have any preconceptions about how a modeling program should behave, but it certainly seems a different beast than the standard ones like Milkshape, Wings 3D, etc. It's very much a mouse based program, drag and drop, deform, select, all done with the mouse. Lots of different ways of creating objects, from deforming primitives to skeleton based, to starting with a cross section, giving the program a side view also and having it extrapolate the rest. I haven't actually created anything exciting yet... the futuristic Naval vessel looks a bit more like a spaceship.. and it's not exactly perfectly symmetrical (one of the issues with mouse based deformation is you need a pretty steady hand - I'm sure there's a way to do it with just the keyboard, but haven't discovered it yet). The sheer number of possible operations that can be performed is high, just getting into how to modify textures and that seems simple. Will post more impressions as I go along, but remember this is based on the Pro version, so the free trial edition (with no time limit as near as I can tell) has quite a few less features (limited most in the export and import files it supports). Have yet to download the PoV RayTrace Renderer that plugs in for free. The animation features are quite nice... Hmm.. Well, hopefully I'll have something useful to post here soon, as in an actual item created with it.

Description of 3D Canvas Pro program from developer(s): 3D Canvas is a real-time 3D modeling and animation tool that incorporates an intuitive drag-and-drop approach to 3D modeling. Complex models can be constructed from simple 3D primitives, or created using 3D Canvas' Object Building Tools. Modeling tools are provided to deform, sculpt, and paint 3D objects. Creating an animated scene is as simple as positioning the objects within your scene for each point in time in your animation. 3D Canvas will ensure that the resulting animation runs smoothly. Your animation can be stepped through a frame at a time, viewed in real-time, or recorded to a Video (AVI) file so that you can distribute your creation. Tool roll-up groups allow you to customize the 3D Canvas interface so that only those items you use most frequently are visible. And if you need access to a less frequently used feature, the tool roll-up is always one click away. The standard version of 3D Canvas is a fully functional product provided as freeware. Upgrades are available for those who require additional features either for game development or for rendering photo-realistic images.

Thanks for the link, I should have remembered to post it. A note about the .avi creation.. It gives big files. :) A simple 10 second animation was 44 megs when I did it and that was with nothing but the motion of a single object with no background. There was a light source though. Another note. If you plan to run it, shut down all other programs that might be running that you won't need. It hogs system memory rather strongly.
