Something to consider Bobbie- I once saw a targeting map when I was in the service that showed about 80% of all americans live with a 500 mile radius of Chicago. MUCH more centrally located then say- Atlanta. :) I'd vote for one a year but in Chicago, Ill :) Geo

Bobbie25 ( ) posted Sun, 20 July 2003 at 5:12 PM

Great Idea - perhaps us "foreigners" could join in as well ;-) How about a "European Convention"??

Bobbie25 ( ) posted Sun, 20 July 2003 at 5:19 PM

European Convention all you would have to do is set up all the ppl that want to goto it that are not in the usa i really dont know how to set up a hotel for Europeans sorry but setting up hotels for a usa Convention is a snap i'v done it before for other Conventions

Let's have it in Antarctica. Centrally located, everyone is equally inconvenienced, free snowcones for the kiddies, and best of all ... penguins!

Stormrage ( ) posted Sun, 20 July 2003 at 6:24 PM

Let's have it in Antarctica. Centrally located, everyone is equally inconvenienced, free snowcones for the kiddies, and best of all ... penguins! and for those of us dying of the heat... IT HAS SNOW AND ITS COLD!!!!! ;p my vote denver Co

pizazz ( ) posted Sun, 20 July 2003 at 6:45 PM

sirkrite ( ) posted Sun, 20 July 2003 at 6:46 PM

They have a hotel in Antarctica? ;D

ookami ( ) posted Sun, 20 July 2003 at 7:38 PM

No hotels... but as a team building exercise, we get to build igloos. The best igloo wins... but no postwork!

ScottA ( ) posted Sun, 20 July 2003 at 7:46 PM

Alcohol, pool, And hot tub? Is this a convention. Or an orgy? If it's the later.......I'll be there early. b.y.o.b must mean bring your own babes ;-)

ookami ( ) posted Sun, 20 July 2003 at 8:18 PM

Orgy, huh? That's right... women are supposed to be into us moody, artistic types, right? Hehe... apparently the women in my area never got the memo! LOL!

Dave-So ( ) posted Sun, 20 July 2003 at 8:36 PM

Chicago is just way big.... How about some little midwest town population about 1000 with a hotel on the interstate or something...like a Super8...

ookami ( ) posted Sun, 20 July 2003 at 8:42 PM

Aww heck... let's just have it at my house... in-ground pool... jacuzzi... grill... volleyball sandpit... and high speed internet access... although admittedly, there's not much parking. I'd have to bus everyone in... doh!

rasputina ( ) posted Sun, 20 July 2003 at 9:53 PM

what-no postwork? now how am I gonna get those igloo seems to look sharp.

Lucy_Fur ( ) posted Sun, 20 July 2003 at 10:24 PM

Hey - Seattle is well known for its Convention Center - lots of moody artist types come out of the Pacific NW too - not that I'm great or moody....well maybe moody. Lots of extra things to do and see.....

EricofSD ( ) posted Sun, 20 July 2003 at 10:30 PM

I like the state by state deal. There's too much 'centralizing' these days and not enough folks who are free to travel. Might as well have groups where people really do live near each other and really can attend.

heyDerick ( ) posted Sun, 20 July 2003 at 10:34 PM

But theres not alot of people In Texas that do Poser maybe there can be like 4 around the US and people can go to witchever they want 1) in California 2) Ohio 3) Virginia or somewhere over there 4) Texas

bknoh ( ) posted Sun, 20 July 2003 at 10:36 PM

Oh Oh a new way to make money on poser whoo hoo!

Darkginger ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 2:04 AM

How about somewhere that's culturally and geographically in between Europe and the US? Like here in Ireland, for example? We could do with the extra business, and y'all could get to trace your ancestry at the same time! Then of course we could have side-trips to taste Guinness, look at 'Celtic' thingies, and admire the 40 shades of green... Just let me know when you want to come, and I'll organise it!

nyguy ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 2:16 AM

I vote for Rochester New York. There is penty of Hotels and we have nice convetion center. Would have to have it in September though not to hot and not too cold.

atom1972 ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 3:20 AM

How about Sunny Southern California. The weather is always perfect here, everything is beach adjacent, and hollywood - need I say more. With big companies like pixar (and a dozen other of the sort)out here who knows who we could snag for a guest speaker at our convention. You know, disneyland will close for special parties if they are big enough, and the Anahiem convention center is right next door - as well as several hotels, each large enough to hold the entire renderosity community. SoCal gets my vote!!!!

atom1972 ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 3:24 AM

Oh yeah, make it somewhere that I can bring my dog. I never go anywhere without her. Psssst. - Disneyland has doggysitters, but I live right next door anyway.

mit123 ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 3:38 AM

I've always fancied going to Ireland Darkginger, its only a short hop from here in Luton Town (international airport, hotels etc ;-) ). As I'm of Indian descent I'd love to know how we're going to trace my ancestry LOL.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 6:05 AM

mit123: it's a well known fact that ALL yanks have Oirish ancestry, begorah: it's one of the requirements for running for president. However Iceland is even more centrally located, with snow for LD and geysers for people wanting heat. Or how about Easter Island, between Japan and the US?

compiler ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 8:10 AM

Hmmm. Where is Atlantid these days ?

Darkginger ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 8:12 AM

It's not just yanks, either - scratch anyone anywhere and you'll find a bit of the blarney inside! There's quite a few Irish Indians around nowadays, too... ah mit, if you come over, I bet you'll be singing 'The Fields of Athenry' with the best of 'em after a few Guinnesses!

mit123 ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 10:50 AM

Only if they're poure with the clover showing ;-)

Spit ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 12:16 PM

How about on a ship? Then the people don't have to come to us, we can go to them!! ;-)

Bobbie25 ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 12:22 PM

Well where ever it is, I wonder if a virtual link-up could be organised? At the end of the day whether you live in a town in the UK, Ireland, any given State in the US or where ever, we all know each other virtually. If you see what I mean. That way if you can't go to the actual convention you could still go to the virtual one!!! What d'ya think?

Peggy_Walters ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 3:31 PM

Renderosity is going to have a booth at Siggraph in San Diego. I am running away from work for an afternoon since I got a free pass to the exhibits. Anyone else here going? Peggy

Ireland gets my Euro vote !!!- roll on guinness and blarney- too many tourists down here in Brighton- wait , hang on, Brighton hosts loads of conventions all year 'round along with non -stop stag nights and hen parties. How about the euro chapter here ? Poser convention/ weddings at the beautiful Brighton Pavillion anyone ? Though Darkgingers 'Celtic' thingies and 40 shades of green are very tempting.....

Darkginger ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 9:09 PM

Brighton is pretty tempting, too - as I'm originally from there, and still have family in Hove Actually! I could bring Celtic thingies with me... perhaps we could hold it in the Fiddler's Elbow? ;) I think I've turned 40 shades of green several times in there...

hauksdottir ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 9:48 PM

The San Fransico Bay Area! (Oakland is centrally located.) Pixar is a few blocks south of me, and Trippet Studios is about a mile north. ILM is across the bay. There are dozens of tiny studios, too. Since CuriousLabs is 75 miles south, we'd possibly be able to get a speaker or two from them. With 3 airports, massive harbors, train stations, etc., transportation is easy. We also have hotels for tiny hundred-person conventions as well as the convention centers for large crowds. Carolly

JohnRender ( ) posted Tue, 22 July 2003 at 2:18 PM

{IT HAS SNOW AND ITS COLD!!!!! my vote denver Co } Um, doesn't Denver have snow and cold?? How about some place south, like Miami or Ft Lauderdale? Or how about Daytona Beach or Orlando (Disney World! Universal! Sea World!) or Tampa Bay (Busch Gardens! roller coasters!)? Then again, San Francisco sounds good... we could all take the 75 mile drive and storm CL's office!
