Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 09 4:28 pm)
Hi Cryodragon, sorry you feel frustrated at the software. Reading one of your previous posts I see you have had a few problems. You did not get back with a response as to whether it was just with items you had downloaded or with the original models as well. If it is a problem that effects all models then I would suggest you contact Curious Labs. If it is only the models you have downloaded, you will need to make sure everything is in the correct location. I have had similar problems in the past but when I went in and manually moved things around to correct locations it solved the problem. BTW: are you trying to use a character that requires you to have an original model i.e do you have a file that only morphs victoria 3 to the character you downloaded and you are trying to run it without any figure in your scene?
Try this step by step approach. I'll assume you are on a PC running some version of Windows. 1. Go the the Free Stuff (link at top of this page), select Poser from the dropdown list. Select Characters from the "Sections:" list near the top of the page. Fild "Digital I Designs Seagull" (was on second page last time I looked), and download it. 2. Place the "Digital_I_Gull_5027.zip" in your Poser folder, as you are using Poase 4 this folder will be called "Poser 4". 3. Open the "Digital_I_Gull_5027.zip" with Win Zip or some other app that supports extraction to paths, read the "Digital I Designs GULL Readme.html", then extract all the files. This particular zip (like many others, but not all) was designed to extract files to the correct folders. 4. Open Poser 4. Open the Libraries pallet (at the right of the Poser window), select the "Figures" pallet. Click the little black down arrow near the top of the pallet, scrolle down the list of pallets till you find "Digital I Freestuff", click on this. 5. You should now be in the new "Digital I Freestuff" pallet. Select the icon that says "Gull" by clicking on it once, from the bottom of the pallet click on the double tick (check), you may get a message saying "The file has a newer version..." if so click "OK", the Gull should now be loaded in the middle of your documant window. Did this work, can you see the gull in your documant window? Did you get any error messages? Can you load the default figures from the Figures pallet? Can you load props from the Prop Types pallet? Can you import a Wavefront Object (*.obj) via; File>Import> Wavefront OBJ? As asked in the other thread. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you ANSWER these questions, we can't help if you do not give us the propper information. If there is somthing you don't understand just ask, but we need information from you, otherwse we are just guessing.
Just a small suggestion: Open Poser and try to load the object you are having a problem with. Look at the box that pops up when it says it can't find "blah, blah, blah". It SHOULD have a path showing where it is looking. If it does, write it down and put your object where Poser is looking for it. That's more or less how I learned to put things in the right places. Poser used to frustrate me too :o). If that still doesn't work, then I would say you have a corrupted geometry file. Laurie
Also, make sure your object has the same name as the object that Poser is looking for (info in the same error box as above). If Poser is looking for an object that is named differently from your object, then it doesn't matter if you have it in the correct folder if it doesn't have the name Poser is looking for. Laurie
Also note if you are creating your own folders that Geometries and geometries are NOT the same to Poser. in other words, it is CaSeSeNsItIvE...

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
I've had the same thing happen to me many times. The first time I asked this question in this forum Steve Shanks (I think) told me to delete the rsr file in the geometry folder. Don't worry, because Poser will rebuild it. The rsr's in the library folders are a different story...DO NOT delete them. :-)
My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!
Also, do not delete the Poser.rsr file in the Poser directory. Poser needs this to work. LesBentley's suggestions of downloading and installing a file you know will install correctly is good. You can do that if you have access to DAZ freebie section on their website at www.daz3d.com. These install right. Actually, going to the Poser5Runtimegeometries directory and looking at the size and properties of the file might help. First it would confirm their existence. Also, corrupt files sometimes report 0 or huge file sizes. Also, checking the Diretory sharing privileges can show whether you still have sharing privileges to the directory. It is possible that you could be blocked off from accessing a directory, either the Geometries folder or one of its subfolders. Not likely but possible.
