THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Hose DTE mat finished!

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 23 July 2003 at 1:36 AM · edited Wed, 22 January 2025 at 5:33 PM

You may have noticed, I like textures that are rusty, stained, dirty, just basically messed up. That's what I of course went for when making an industrial/sci-fi DTE mat for my hose. I now have a finished, fully DTE .mat now. It's good enough for now, anyways.

What's kind of cool about this is, one thing I can do with the material you see here is to take its channel A, and change it from "World Space" to "Random", and it will change it into a much more "newer looking" hose material. Lol, "Parametric Scaled" makes it look kinda like a snake, with a dark top and sides and a lighter under belly. So, it's kinda versatile that way. Part of the "look" for this texture is that the hose is made out of spheres. It won't look the same when applied to other objects, but with various tweaking you can make it look good on most objects. That is a seriously cool material AS! You could easily set up a two-panel scene showing a before and after, like the passage of time, or the aftermath of a disaster or war. I bet it would be great in an animation as well.

Hoses rule. SO do you, AgentSmith! Cool stuff...

Rusty and messed up? You'd have loved my old '61 batmobile/dodge. A little tweaking and you'd have a rattlesnake texture. Exellent work!

Beanzvision ( ) posted Wed, 23 July 2003 at 8:38 AM

would look good on a snake! :)

The one in post #2 looks like the reinforcing rods they put in concrete after the old concrete has been busted up and you have all those bent-up rusted rods sticking out.

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

Aye, give it a bit of redness and you'd have a perfect re-bar texture...!

One hell of a mat. And its versatility make it all the more interesting.
