THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Thinking of starting an IRC room... read more.

draculaz ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 9:41 AM · edited Sat, 11 January 2025 at 4:00 PM

So yeah, I'm bored beyond belief here and I thought it would be an interesting idea to make an irc room for us all -not just brycers- where we can share ideas and so on. I'm even tempted to throw in a triviabot :) But yeah, I brought this up before, I think that the more people join the better it will be for the community and the users at large. Any of you know how to use IRC? :) Drac

Slakker ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 9:43 AM

I do, i wouldn't be sure what server to put it on, however...

draculaz ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 9:46 AM

well, we could make it on gamesnet and pass it off as game modelling (since it has to be game related). or we could do it on efnet -where i'm stationed right now in some rooms. the problem with efnet is that there needs to be someone trustworthy 24/7 on the channel, or for someone with a server to set up an eggdrop bot to keep the channel alive. otherwise the moment ops leave any user can become op and it's not pretty. we could also trade models. I use IRC all the time... I've brought this up in the past but nobody was willing to mod one..

Doublecrash ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 9:57 AM

I'm in if this come out. Frankly, the java chat here is not so cool... S.

draculaz ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 10:00 AM

Okay, then we just need to figure out where we'll put it on. I'm a fan of EFnet, because I'm used to it, but I'd like to have you guys around online as much as possible. or gamesnet, undernet... I don't know, I'm open to suggestions.

Swade ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 10:14 AM

Well... I have used irc some but not a lot. I would sure use it if it turns out.

There are 10 kinds of people: Those who know binary, and those who don't.

A whiner is about as useful as a one-legged man at an arse kicking contest.

draculaz ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 10:16 AM

all right, i can see the interest's here. i'll set up the room and such and i'll invite you all when it's done later today :)

brholte ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 10:18 AM

what is irc????????????????

Ornlu ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 10:20 AM

I'm a big fan of gamesnet myself. they seem to offer the best service.

draculaz ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 10:43 AM

yeah ornlu, i'll figure it out. brholte: it's called Internet Relay Chat. It's an old old precursor to ICQ and so on, and functions parallel to the net. And it's still in full swing. You haven't experienced the internet until you've sampled IRC :) go find mIRC. download it. fiddle with it. google :)

brholte ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 10:44 AM

will do!! thanks br

Ornlu ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 10:56 AM

Yeah, IRC is definitely the absolute best in chatting software. (well mirc for software irc for code) It's fast, simple, and is how chat should always be.

antevark ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 6:18 PM

Let's use GamesNet. What channel, if it's not a Bryce-only channel?

antevark ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 6:19 PM

Oh, and if you set up the trivia bot, I'll wait in line for a chanserv. Trivia bots are so fun!

amethyss ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 6:40 PM

You should have a look at halsoft.com if you think irc is good. That is a virtual chat where about 45 or more can be in one room and display pictures (avatars) use gestures and 12 can tour around the internet together.wherever the tourguide goes they follow. One catch it cost $10 a month.Lotus programming.

antevark ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 6:49 PM

Interesting, but... not worth $10. IRC is definitly good enough for me.

amethyss ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 6:53 PM

I know. and for me it is 17 because of canadian funds. But thats how I got started in cg. It is all geared for 20 minute art contests.

grins.....speaking of chat lines....irc is good, but it doesn't even compare to The Manor....it's relatively new, and is in a pay period right now, but registration is only $20 a year, and is rumored to be dropped once programming is complete. This is a place where each of you could even display your art in the room your chatting in itself... The Manor closely resembles The Palace, for those who know of it, but has been greatly improved. People are represented by pictures, avatars, (i use playboy *winks*) and the room is actually a picture...text comes from speach bubbles rather then in a scroll.... if anyone wants to check it out, the main download page is www.madwolfsw.com chatting is free, but for special privelidges like building and wearing the avatars, the fee applies....although...*grins* some manors, listed in the site directory with a green cup beside the name, have a guest=member pass code, which allows ANYONE to have these abilities, regardless of registration or not....ours is one of those manors... if you guys wanna go check it out, see LNH in Lady Night Hawk's place, or the programmer, Scottsman, in the Main Manor, Dan in Ye Olde Manor, eternity in Wet Spot, or Cal in Al-ka San.....grins...tell em passion sent Ya (fair warning, some manors contain explicit content and alot of nudity)

amethyss ( ) posted Tue, 22 July 2003 at 1:20 AM

That' s like halsoft but the rooms are user created and mostly music rooms or paint contest rooms.Avatars are usually models and you design them with fancy graphics.

JC_01 ( ) posted Tue, 22 July 2003 at 11:03 AM

well, lots of places have many rooms....ours has around 200 rooms right ow, and that is just ours, so the music rooms are off to the side to be used when ya want to, but we have main chat rooms where everyone gathers... grins

JC_01 ( ) posted Tue, 22 July 2003 at 11:06 AM

if you guys wanna try it out, Cal said we could sponser you guys at our place....is mostly Gor lifestyle, but is mixed also, and everyone is welcome....can even have a seperate entrance for you if you dun wanna pass by us weirdos winks

ODAAT ( ) posted Tue, 22 July 2003 at 9:27 PM
