I bought vue, installed it on my mac (10.2.6 768 ram) and it crashed. Was told run cocktail and run prebinding. Still crashed. Was told it was my video card so i upgraded to radeon 9000 pro installed it, upgraded quicktime, ran prebinding again. AND IT STILL CRASHES. So far i have spent far more than i wanted to for a program that i feel should still be in beta. I have had no problems whatsoever with any other graphics program. mike

Well, i don't have many problems on my Mac (10.2.6 / 1 GB Ram). And so are others here which work on Macs (TheWingedOne,...) While i am writing it Vue is rendering in the background - i am testing some things. Anyway, this does not help you. It sounds like a conflict between something you have installed and Vue. Even when it is not visible yet what it is. Or a setting in Vue. Have you installed external system extentions in your system? Probably someone has advised that before. Is OpenGL switched off in Vue? I new friends who had a lot of crashes when OpenGL was on in Vue. But however - could you give us some more details please? When does the crashes happen, etc etc.

picked a sky, created a new terrain, applied material to terrain. crashes did above plus erode, gravel and several others. clicked ok program gets fatal error and locks up and i have to force quit created sky , created terrain, did not manipulate terrain in any way. Created a tree and moved it around where i wanted it. Rendered it no problem. problems seem to be in terrain editor. Any other things i could try to narrow this down? System 10 does not use extentions so there isn't a problem there. And i have been working with open gl off the whole time. mike

I wish I could help; I run Vue on a PC. But I've found the openGL thing should be off, which you have done, and set the background draw thread for off. Do you have latest update to Vue? I believe it's 4.12? You should re-download that and reinstall the update if you can. If not, check at E-on website, also look there to see in the knowledge base under support, you may find some more information. And you should make certain to send them the problem. I hope this is resolved for you asap.

Hey Mike, I also recently purchased Vue 4 for Mac OSX and I've had my share of crashes. Not as often as you seem to ... but some instances are repeatable. I don't have any answers for you. Have you been in touch with E-On? There U.S. contact is Lynn Fredricks, nice guy, and he does post to this forum. Hopefully the 4.2 update will be ready soon, hopefully it will address some of the bugs. - Dave

I'm with Djeser, as I also run Vue in PC and agree with what he said. Few pointers, even though not sure whether they will be helpful for your case in Mac! In PC - If Vue crashes with no particular reason, while you working or opening or saving ... mostly it would be the O/S is not cooperating with Vue. If it crashes in perticular operation only (ie, terrain editor), it might be some corrupted Vue drivers or bugs. If Vue freezes up and gives you "hard error" or "fatal error", randomly & often, it could easily be guesses as a hardware/driver related issue. The bottom line is something or someone in your computer is not liking Vue! I THINK, the bet would be, (I'm sure you know this, but I'm writing it anyhow) Uninstall Vue, do a file search and delete everything that has Vue name in it in your comp. Update all your drivers and O/S ... or at least check. Close all programs as advised (most particularly anti-virus or anything like that, which runs in the background). Then install, followed by updates. (don't know what is "cocktail" or "prebinding", so can't say anything about that.) In any case, hope you get to enjoy Vue soon.

Well, of course their are extentions in System 10. Not in the same way as under 9 but... DefaultFolder for example, QuickKeys, Suitcase etc etc. Maybe there is a conflict there. Maybe. I only have crashes in Vue from time to time when i click to quickly from one window into another. The display handling seems to be a little "sensitive" sometimes. Anyway, if you want me to, i can make a screenshot of my settings tomorrow (when i am back at the office) so you can compare.

I had alot of problems installing Vue on my pc beacause of the stupid slideshow. It kept auto opening the slideshow that was messing up the install. I think they need to package the program better.

Hi Mike, I recommend that you check into our online technical support (plow through the knowledge base until you find a "contact technician" button). Im not a tech support guy, so I don't want to give you bum advice. You should be as specific as possible about what you have installed. MacOS X is a moving target for all vendors, and 3D software uses a lot of stuff that's seen a lot of changes (like updates to OpenGL, etc). However, a little advice before you check with TS. Make sure you are not running any anti-virus software or software that makes auto-checks on the hard drive -- turn off Norton or Tech Tool, for example. Sometimes they move stuff around in memory. Also, download the latest video drivers from ATI. They do a great job on keeping their drivers up to date, but even they make mistakes once in a while. I also recommend a clean reinstall. Sometimes when instructions are written to disk in an uncivil way it can correct components. Hope that helps. Best regards, Lynn Fredricks e-on software
