I was checkingh the cinema 4d gallery and came across this incredible image of mike.. rendered in cinema 4d... point is u can download.. a full working demo of cinema 4d.. (save disabled) and then download a free plugin from "Amazone's City" http://www.amazonescity.com/ point is no need to wait for dazstudio or anyone else... check the image out.. speaks for itself... Nick

I'm missing something....if the save is disabled, then what good is it other than to see how it works?

Looks good but a lot of packages have obj imports that will take a static Poser 4 scene up to a point and render it. Bryce does this. The problem is the amount of fix up one has to do on materials especially if you are using 5 nodes. I went to the amazonescity site (my kind of site btw :) but couldn't find the plugin. Does it import a straight pz3 file and render without adjustments or do you have to go and tweak materials etc? Carrara supposedly imports poser but upon talking to their rep at comicon its just an obj file import. What is needed is a better renderer that also allows figure posing in the app. That would be perfect. Vue imports pz3 files but I don't think it handles the nodes. I use a lot of material nodes now making exporting rather tough.

I just started playing with it today.. takes about 2 minutes to set up your figure with the plugin... step#1 export wavefront object step#2 save figure with clothes etc... as a cr2.. in poser step#3 open cinema step#4 load object step$5 run plugin.. step #6 load saved cr2 from before (or a pose mat file) step #7 build mat's (just press on key in plugin)... does the transpancy,bumps,etc..) step#8 render (full screen) no tweaking needed.. step #9 snag it (screen capture)

alamanos ( ) posted Mon, 28 July 2003 at 3:43 PM

by the way Mazek.. i thought your image was incredible... inspired me to research cinema 4d.. by the way how did u setup the lighting.. is that hdri with radiosity? nick

Yes It's HDRI... I use one of the light probes from: http://athens.ict.usc.edu/Probes/ (Uffizi Gallery Probe) Mazak

Pssst: Poser 5 SR3 has a probelight node in the material room...

stewer ( ) posted Mon, 28 July 2003 at 5:30 PM

Mazak - what is making the shadows in that image? Is that from HDRI, ambient occlusion or did you add an area light from the upper left?

Mazak ( ) posted Mon, 28 July 2003 at 5:51 PM

The scene has no 'lights' The light and shadows are created by the HDRI map. The HDRI texture is mapped to a 'Sky-Object'. And another important setting is to deactivate 'lightautomatic' in render setting. I use German C4D I hope it's translated correct. Mazak p.s. stewer Bei fragen IM an mich ;-)

pretty nice! off checking out

farang ( ) posted Mon, 28 July 2003 at 6:48 PM

You need to create new ones if you want them to run correctly in Cin 4D. C4D has an excellent render engine by the way. They also have a very cool plug-in called "Dynamics" that models liquids, cloth, collision detection and gravity but in many ways Posers features are better.

wolf359 ( ) posted Mon, 28 July 2003 at 6:51 PM

they work if you move them to the correct channel in the materials manager.

Nicky's plug-in place the transmap correct to the alpha map channel ;-) Mazak

mondoxjake ( ) posted Mon, 28 July 2003 at 7:28 PM

Sounds interesting, but question on Step #9: When doing a screen capture you are getting the graphic at 'screen resolution'and not render resolution, correct? So doesn't that degrade the image quality somewhat? I may not know what I am talking about here, but am curious about that.

stewer ( ) posted Mon, 28 July 2003 at 7:37 PM

How long does HDRI take to render in C4D?

Mazak ( ) posted Mon, 28 July 2003 at 7:42 PM

@ mondoxjake: C4D has an option to render in a picture-manager (Bild-Manager). You can render the picture as big as you wish! Move in this manager the sliders, make your screenshots and compose the cropped image in a paint program. I hope this work for the Demo version. Mazak

alamanos ( ) posted Mon, 28 July 2003 at 8:07 PM

mondoxjake: render resolution.. it reallity at it really means is you're increasing the size of the image.. (it's really only usefull for prinitng).. becuase when u look at somethimg on your monitor.. you are still limited by your monitors screen resolution.. in most cases 72dpi.. so what u really want to do is get as many dots in yoiuyr image as possible... what i do.. just before i render .. i switch my monitor to 1600 x 900.. speed to render: default render settings for hdri.. low qual ; 3 minutes mediam qual: 10-20 min high qual: 20 min to 10 hours!

8.1 cinema has native support for this

c1rcle ( ) posted Tue, 29 July 2003 at 4:25 AM

stewer can you start another thread with some details of this probe light node in poser please :) & that is an amazing pic Mazak, mike never normally looks that good.

stewer ( ) posted Tue, 29 July 2003 at 4:57 AM

The probelight node appears to be an implementation of the algorithm behind the link. It is very fast at diffuse lighting, but does not do shadows.

c1rcle ( ) posted Tue, 29 July 2003 at 5:14 AM

I won't pretend to understand a word of what's at that link :) but it works & that's all that matters really :D thanks stewer (wonders how this would fit in with the Z-toon technique)

I'm getting some pretty impressive results on figure renders in Poser 5 just using the materials parameters - HDRI would be nice, but I don't have the patience for exporting, translating tweaking etc. These images are straight out of P5 - no postwork and render times just a few seconds.

Dash also uses C4D to render (NUDITY warning on link). I have v7.3, but so far just use it to model with (I haven't figured out how to do good lighting for renders in it yet).

Cinema4D Plugins (Home of Riptide, Riptide Pro, Undertow, Morph Mill, KyamaSlide and I/Ogre plugins) Poser products Freelance Modelling, Poser Rigging, UV-mapping work for hire.

c1rcle ( ) posted Fri, 01 August 2003 at 6:29 AM

freeman pose the figure/s you want in poser then use the export option from the file menu, don't try importing the original obj from the geocities folder all you'll get is the figure in the default position.

swfreeman ( ) posted Fri, 01 August 2003 at 8:21 AM

ok..thought so... does it work with all the clothes on? or did i have to split the whole posed and clothed model up? i thought first the cr2 file i have to import into the plugin applys the library saved pose to the base geometries object.. what are the export settings in poser? default? ok.. thx..
