ok, i wanted to do a remake of another pic for a chat program....i wanted to be able to have a version of the pic that i could add things to, and still have it look realistic. This pic, in this post is the original collage picture. It was edited and put together by three of us, and i wanted to redo it in bryce.....although i did want to add color, and shadow effects that were lacking in the psp version. The next post below will have the bryce version, but i'm not sure i like it... looks flat... what do ya'all think? flat or ok?

If you like...send me the Bryce file...I have some ideas ;-) Thomas

Thomas: the bryce file is over 38 mb in size so would take quite a while if you're on dialup... I think when i got time to make another render (took about 15+ hours to do on my pc) am going to play with changing more of the tree textures to darker ones, and changing the base terrains they sit on (for a quick filler) to a darker color. ohhh credits.... the grass is the amethys grass from the free stuff... the fence i made and the benches, although need to redesign the benches... (LOVEEEEE that amethys grass btw! thank youuuuu to whoever made it (bad memory) )

lol you really think so? hmmm maybe will try to make one of my own then....none i have really look real except this one....lol thanks :D

Aye, the grass is horrendous, don't take it as vehemence, I jsut mean it looks like a tiled image map. Bryce has ridiculous procedural textures that youmight want to take advantage of... Also, the mountains in the background are really low-res. Increase the resolution on them a bit, and do some smoothing? Just some ideas.

SevenOfEleven ( ) posted Mon, 28 July 2003 at 7:50 PM

If you can get the grass to not look tiled, that would help a bit. What are you going to put in this picture? Whats the focus?

JC_01 ( ) posted Mon, 28 July 2003 at 8:01 PM

shadow: I've tried several of the greener looking terrain textures and they all look like crap with this pic. I may need to change the sky properties to something completely different, although every setting i've tried makes it look even worse! LOL The mountains can be sharpened some by making less haze very easily....am thinking also of moving them back a bit to make them look more distant. Seven: the focus as of now is on the lighted waterfalles, but the foregroud is to give a sense of wanting to set on the benches. I think what actually happened, in this pic, is there are too many focal points...the falls, the benches, and that red tree. definately going to work on the grass texture, have never done a texture map before so should be very interresting...lol also need to make it look less flat....but then, i really love the original pic, so is hard to even compare...(and after about the 5th day working on the bryce version, they all looked the same..lol) thanks everyone for all the fresh views and thoughts and helpful hints..... the grass in the pic, looks great on some scenes and like this in others... http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=457280 is a pic i just fixed with the grass in it, is a good example of how good it can look....looks freshly mowed...grins will keep workin on it....lol

Wonder how you are going to do it? Even if you mute the colors of the trees, the falls will still grab attention. If you know how to lead users eyes then you could lead them from foliage to the benches. Never really got "eye leading" to work right. Good pictures have lines in them that allow users to follow them to the focal point. The mountains don't really fit the scene, they seem too spikey, might want to try rounded ones. Maybe you can do away with them.

am gonna mess with this again tonight...play with some colorings, maybe remove the lighting inside the falls, or dim it a little... hope to have a repost tomorrow, if the render don't take too long....lol I share your views...there is something definately wrong with this version, and it's hard to put my finger on exactly what it is as any one thing, so will change a few things and see how it comes out....lol thanks and will post a new one as soon as it's done with that longggggg render lol
