Subject: Any Known crashing issues with Vue on Mac?

Hi, I have had to reinstall View 3 times in the last day because it keeps crashing with a fatal error. This is the first time Vue has ever crashed on me and now I am not sure what to do. I am running Vue 4.12 on OSX 10.2.6 with 1GB RAM. I don't think it is a memory issue. The first time it crashed I was messing with the Pursuit animation and tutorial. Before it crashed I noticed that whenever I would open up a window in view (IE Render options) the mac menu bar and all menus would be highlighted. Hovering the mouse over the menu would restore the normal appearance. Then after that Vue informed me that I should save my work and close Vue because a fatal error had occurred. Once I closed Vue, this is when I would have to reinstall as when Vue was started again all the collections listed in the New or Open window were gone. I reinstalled and it crashed again, I even deleted all the prefs and .ini's that were located in Application support so that no remnants could be causing problems. No Luck. I am now on my third reinstall. Seems to crash with animation or when window or dialog is opened up. IE render options, timeline, material editor. Any thoughts? Any other Mac users having problems? I am trying this forum first before I go straight to e-on as I this is such a great community with many knowledgeable people. Thanks, Paul

Hi Paul, no i don't have this problem. Even when very often the menu bar is highlighted here as you describe it. This is new in 4.12 i think. Of course i do have crashes from time to time - like most of complex applcations does have (even Photoshop goes down sometimes). My feeling with Vue is, that it has mostly to do with display problems. Normally when i click too fast from one window to the next (or something like this) it could happen that Vue does not like it. Or, when the files become too big (more than 500 MB) it happened sometimes that Vue crashes while saving the scene. I have such a problem at the moment with one scene i am working on. This looks a little like a runtime problem to me. There you only can try to save your work always via "save as" into a fresh file and delete the old version manually. Not a big help really. Sorry. Thanks! That does help. At least I know the menu bar thingie is a bug and about the clicking too fast thing too. Thanks for the info, Paul

Just to let you know that the Mac's not the only one with crashes and stuff. On the pc I occasionally end up getting a box on the screen with one button marked OK, that's when I know everythings far from OK and my save file that should be 500mb is turned into a 15kb one. Oh how everytime it happens I laugh and chuckle out loud at the pure wit that went into coding that little gem.

Hi, I agree with Walther (wabe). Vue seems to get disappointed if one switches windows too fast. Same things happen while working in the material editor. When you're finished with a certain material Vue usually renders a preview of it. When you pass on to the next material while it's still rendering Vue sometimes goes down. Might be another "display" bug. Phil

Sentinal: Yeah don't you just love those very helpful dialog boxes? Phil: That is good to know, I will keep my eye on that one to see if that is what is happening to me. -Paul
