THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Any ideas on saving my wip?

Sambucus ( ) posted Mon, 28 July 2003 at 5:10 AM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 2:43 AM

The wip I posted a few back now wont load. It gets about half way throught then tells me Bryce has a problem. Other files load fine. Guess Ill have to post as is unless you guys can suggest something. It had about 1200 objects and 1,8000,000 polygons. Thats not excessive, is it. It was certainly making myputer crawl, though. (Athlon XP 2000, 512 ddr, XP Home) I`m going to bang a wall with my head now.

Strange. I have the same configuration (only difference I have an Athlon 1800) and never encountered problems with such objects-numbers. Search the temp directory to see if there's maybe another version of the file you can use. S.

I take it that it opened fine up until this point. Did you always load it first or did you have other things open before this one? What I'm thinking is that if you had something else running before then Bryce may have too much to cope with or if you didn't then maybe you should open something else first then open this file. None of this is base on actual knowledge but we all know how finicky Bryce can be so it's worth a try. Catlin

Nothing in the temp file, Dc. I started from fresh this morning, Catlin, added a couple of things but it was really struggling so I shut down the PC and restarted it. When I went to reload the file in Bryce, it didnt want to know. I usually make progressive saves as I go along but this time I only had the one. My fault. Ive put the pic into poser as a background and managed to put a few seagullls on there but thats all. Think I lost some quality doing that. I may even go back and start again sometime, when I stop screaming.LOL

Have you tried merging that scene into a fresh one?

Sambucus ( ) posted Mon, 28 July 2003 at 6:24 AM

Nice idea, mloates but no go. Its something in the file it doesnt like. Anyway, I`m going to cut my losses, post in my gallery coz I still like the pic, and maybe try again later.

I have discovered that windows doesn't exactly see bryce. If you shut down windows with office open, windows will ask you to save the changes. If you shut down windows with bryce saving, windows can close before all the file gets on your hard disk. Make sure your drive light stops after a save and that the bryce top menu is active before you quit.

Yep, sam, same thing happened to me. I was working on my tea splash metaball image (again) and I had it almost done, it was rendering but my computer was having problems so I saved it when I closed bryce (even though I had saved it 5 seconds before that) and I had chosen to shupt down windows... As you know multiple K metaballs take a long long time to save, and windows shut down before it finished. I figured it'd be ok and most likely bryce writes to a page file before overwriting the previous save.. (nope...) freaking corel makes it overwrite the other file in real time. Is it just me or does this seem really stupid? Anyway the file was ruined, no chance of saving it. It opened but there were no objects to be seen (even though the save file was 24 megs)

I guess that saving thing could be what I did wrong. The red light on this PC is tiny and difficult to see where I have it. On my old Pc the working light used to blind passers by. I can see the value of that now.

Sorry for your loss! That is a wonderful pic. I've also been the victim of corrupted files.

I wanted to look through your gallery, but I seriously got scared out of it by those spiders man! I hate those things... I did see your pic tho, and I'm sorry about your problem! Cory BS
