Subject: Color Bleed in "Bubble" while transferring to mini DV

Hi there. I used a textured bubble, and it looked great on my monitor and when I created an .avi. However, when I tried transferring the footage to a mini DV, the bubble became all "rainbowy" with diagonal lines. Anyone know why? Thanks in advance for any help. SKCGirl

super saturated colors, while they look fine on computer monitors, tend to bleed on ntsc monitors and tvs. if your video editor has an ntsc video-safe filter, use it. it will make sure your colors are legal. sometimes this is not enough. you may have to manually bring down your colors using levels, or other types of adjustment in your editor. a good rule general guage -- rgb values of over 215 will look oversaturated. reddish stuff may need to be brought down even more. regarding banding, try applying a smidgen of noise to your video. this can make the banding look a little better. as a final note, your computer monitor is capable of displaying millions of colors. your tv or monitor is not. hope that helps.

Thank you so much for your response. We found out that when transferred to BetaSP this problem did not occur. We ended up switching the bubble so it looked more like a circle. Not the best, but it worked. I also noticed that this is happening a lot on mainstream TV programming also. If you look inside people's mouths on shows that are taped on DV, it gets pixelated. Anyway, I wanted to respond since the project is finally over and I can reflect on it. Thanks for your help.

Oh, I just realized that I didn't have the "notify" box checked, and this was the first I had known that someone responded...
