This was at sunset...think I was finally getting the feel of this lens. Wish I had my monopod or tripod for this shot, but not bad for handheld. Shot at 272mm, f/8, 1/350th, ISO 400 with exp comp at -1/2. Circ Polarizer on lens. -=>Donald

This was so wild. Never caught this kind of color before in a sunset. I really wonder if just having the CircPL filter on it would have been the same? I forgot that right before I shot this, I was on the beach shooting with a Sky 1A filter on the lens (which reduces blue and warms a little). I looked up and saw the sailboat moving towards the setting sun and I took off towards an outcropping of rocks that extends about 100-150 feet from the beach. Didn't want to risk not getting the shot, so I just grabbed my CircPol and put it on the lens with the Sky 1A. -=>Donald

I doubt that the polarizer had much effect here, other than making it more difficult to hand hold.

DHolman ( ) posted Sat, 02 August 2003 at 2:39 AM

Polarizer kicked down the light on the water surface. Otherwise, the entire surface would have been too bright and sparkly. Had a couple shots without it. Kind of pretty, but really hard to see anything. -=>Donald

Donald, how do You keep Your Horizon so straight...hand held...do You look through the wee Hole or the Big Screen. I now use the Canon G5, but 80% of My Hand Held...on the Beach...are just not on the Level...great clarity,,,but Horizon askew....and if I ever Posted them, this is the first thing they My Fans..I have to send Gifts to keep them) they would critique...and I am very sensitive. When I am at the Beach Donald, I tend to look at shots through the LCD Screen, mainly because, that little hole that You can look through is very wee, and I would have to go and put My Glasses on. Glasses don't look Kewl on the Beach, (Sand get's kicked in My Eyes) Donald...You just ask the Hard Case Hard Kiss Sisters. So, Donald, Buddy...have You any advice on how I may recify this dilemma, or should some one as shakey as Me, just rely on a Tripod...or My Walking Frame. I really am a Learner Donald...I look up to You like a Big Brother. Hugz.

Dear 3DGuy...er...thanx heaps...I am assuming that one gets this Measure Tool and...yep...just by putting Me in touch with the correct Tool is a real big help...and now I understand it's Function. Truely thanx...for I don't Comprehende Potato Shop...this is even better info than I got from the last Person....who suggested that I go to the Chemist an get some Drug to help with My Balance. Cheers! ...and have a Nice Day! Hugz! :)

Sometimes I do not know if you're just being silly or serious Tedz :)

so here's a shot explanation of how to work the measure tool to correct your horizon (using PS7)..

  1. Open your image (duh)
  2. Select the measure tool, it's hidden under the eyedropper tool, just click and hold the little arrow in the corner of that button and select the ruler.
  3. Now that you have the right tool selected, click and hold on the left side of the image a point on the horizon
  4. move the pointer over to the right side of the image and select a point on the horizon and release the mousebutton. You should now have a line in your image
  5. from the 'Image' menu choose 'rotate canvas' and then 'arbitrary'. The right value is already entered, all you have to to is click 'OK'
  6. Now you should have a horizontal horizon :)

Tedz - I think you have a complex about the Hardkiss Sisters ... I don't know if it's a healthy obsession or not. :) I look through the wee hole and check my level. It took a long time before that one piece snuck into my landscape photography. I always use to get the compositions I wnated, but then I'd get the shots back and the horizon was crooked. One day, checking for horizon levelness just sort of started happening. Do it almost subconciously now. Just make sure you keep a good grip on your Zooooooooom lens and you'll be okay. :) -=>Donald

I am Sincere 3DGuy.I am not of the Digital Era. I have tried to teach Myself the Computer, for 2 Years now..without understanding the Language or Functions...now..don't laugh...but..I only discovered how to "Copy and Paste", because a Renders Member taught Me...I did not know these things existed, untill 6 weeks ago. I did not even know Front Page was the Front Page...here at Renders....where they discuss and Vote for the Artist of the Month ...I thought it was the Microsoft Front Page Program...that is why I never went there. Because...I didn't Comprehende. A Simple thing (not for Me)...that being a Thumbnail was one of My most puzzling Quests....at last...a week ago ..I have it sorted...I now use Potato Shop, instead of Front Page which I used to use...just to make a Thumb...I didn't know that Potato Shop could do it. So there! I open My Soul to You...though I am without doubt a Brilliant High Commander, and indeed a Wonderful Lover, My Own Personal Ram has been used up and burnt out, even Your simple comment of how to ...(1) Open Your Image (duh) ...well 3DGuy...thanx...You really do have to make it simple when You explain. I have Copied and Pasted Your Instructions...sincerely I do thank You. I know I am silly sometimes, but I would not send anyone on a Wild Goose Chase, if they use their time, with Me in Mind. Donald thanx also for Your advice...and Yes...I am Obsessed with the Hard Case Hard Kiss Sisters, and Yes...my hand does shake when I think of them....but, I will take Your most Precious advice....and keep a good grip on My Zoooooooooooooooooom Lens sigh thank You Both :)
