(In a Price is Right announcer's voice) :... *in your brand new calliope!!!* Okay, not there yet; it still needs some more bric-a-brac, but tell me if this was the general direction.

One word: Classy!

WOW!

OK, guys, just so you all know -- I'm just the texture artist here. Ockham is the modeller extraordinaire.

Exactly right! Fantastic! And Joey, if you think it needs more bric-a-brac still, you've got the Barnum and Bailey spirit from head to toe. Go for Baroque!

Pat, You know what my reference library is like? Book, books, and more books! So I thought I'd tackle this texture project. 8 books on stone circles. No Victorian. A foot or more of Art Nouveau. No Victorian. About 4 feet of Arthurian/Celtic. No Victorian. Another 2 feet of Arabian/Desertlands. No Victorian. I wonder what this calliope would look like with Viking beasts or Scythian goldwork or... alien monster flesh? :wide evil grin as I contemplate a shape-shifter described as the instrument of our doom: Carolly

I think this is it. If you like it, let me know and I'll send it on to you. One thing I noticed when rendering this morning: for some weird reason, the more light I poured onto the top, the darker it got, to the point where I had five lights focused on it, and it came out flat black. I don't know what the problem is, so I've inserted a view of the top panel.

ockham ( ) posted Sun, 03 August 2003 at 10:31 AM

I like it! I love it! I love it! Don't worry about the top panel; it's stuffed with pipes anyway, so its image won't be clearly visible. Hope you can find a way to "amortize" all this work, by applying it to salable furniture items or something!

Whoaa.... Very cool, very beautiful. As a major fan of antique and ancient instruments, my kudos go out to you both.

anyone interested in a blue velvety texture for this? I didnt render with shadows.

ockham ( ) posted Sun, 03 August 2003 at 1:56 PM

The more the merrier! Modernistic style doesn't tickle me, but many people will prefer it. Send me the texture, or link to it, and I'll set up a MATpose with it.

I'm not sure who built this - ockham or joey. Whatever. For whoever did build it, if I can offer a piece of advice, I think the model needs it's vertices split in uv mapper. If you look at the 1st image in this thread, top right shot, you can clearly see the unsplit surface (unless it's some weird reflection map effect). But I can see it on the sides too. It looks really good. I'd just take care of that one detail and it'll be perfect. 'the more light I poured onto the top, the darker it got' This is probably the explanation. mac

ockham ( ) posted Sun, 03 August 2003 at 4:20 PM

Yes, I'm going to fiddle some more with UV. It definitely needs splitting, not least because the corners show up round.
