I was wondering how I would remove the corner ends from some railing? I just need the railing but not the corner boxes.

Several options:

  1. Does the prop have different materials assigned to the ends than the rails? If so just make the end material transparent.
  2. Use the grouping tool to create a separate material for the ends (and then set that material to be transparent)
  3. Use the grouping tool to split the object (select the rails then click spawn prop) [I think Dr Geep has a tutorial on the grouping tool somewhere in this forum]
  4. apply a transparency map with the parts you want to keep in white and the parts to hide in black.

I would use the grouper tool but it does'nt support pp2 or rsr, It looks like the best solution is to make the ther parts transparent, thanks for your help

Grouper tool works with props (or at least it does in P5, I assume it does in earlier versions.) Place pp2 and rsr in one of your library -> props -> ???? folders. Open poser Open prop folder and double click railing prop to bring it into scene. Select it. Select grouping tool. Edit away. -- Mark

Thanks for your support, I discovered a new tool in poser 5 thanks to you, now how do I remove the end squares from the railing using the grouper tool?

yggdrasil ( ) posted Tue, 05 August 2003 at 8:20 PM

Quick guide: First change the display setting to wireframe (it makes it easier to select back polygons. Select prop. Select grouping tool. In "Group editor" panel click "new group" and call it rails Now select the parts of the prop that belong to rails. (you can click on individual polys or drag a selection box around a group - hold down ctrl to deselect) Once all the parts you want to keep are selected (highlighted in red), click on "create prop" and again enter rails as the name. Close the group editor panel. There will now be two props in scene, the original one and your new rails one. There we go, quick and dirty prop slicing. Note, you may find that the ends of your new prop now have holes where they would originally have joined to the squares. Hope that helps Mark

Thanks for your support, I had to create a new prop for each column and rail because for some reason the whole railing is locked together
